  • Thinking I had the answer to everything and that I was the only one who was “thinking logically”. Emotions were weak and irrelevant, the only things that mattered were facts (i.e. anything that I believed). I swear to god, if those cunts like Jordan Peterson had gotten a hold of me I would’ve turned even more insufferable. As it stood, I basically just became a mostly far-left cringe lord with exactly zero understanding about how the world actually works. Luckily I’ve learned since then.

  • I haven’t tried them, so I cannot judge, but I’m just afraid I’ll run into issues when I will have to go off the beaten path. Inevitably I’ll have to do something hacky in order to fix some obscure software that the maintainers of the distro didn’t think of, and that’s currently already a big pain. But in such a strict setting it will be even more difficult. There will be no documentation and probably no guide or questions/answers on any forum either.

I’d be willing to try it for a productivity setup if I needed a reinstall, but not for my main PC because I just rely on too many hacks to get shit working.

  • Not nearly as bad, if at all. I drink a lot of tea on work days (probably over a liter) and have never had issues with that. I don’t regularly drink energy drink or cola etc, but he times that I had them also didn’t have the same effect.

While caffeine also doesn’t necessarily make my body happy, I do think that there’s something else that upsets my body when drinking coffee. Maybe something to do with dehydration or histamine intolerance. Idk.

Edit: hmmm but apparently black tea and green tea are also high in histamine and I drink a lot of that. It remains a mystery

  • Coffee :(

The “virus wombo combo” of mono and COVID fucked a lot of things up permanently, but most of them have rebounded to an acceptable state. Whenever I drink coffee it fucks me up, even decaf coffee. Makes me feel tired as hell, stressed, overstimulated. It also seems to last for almost a full day. Drink coffee in the morning, and I have a big chance of sleeping badly.

Not that it’s guaranteed to hold me back…

Every now and then the sane part of my brain forgets to pay attention and my coffee craving gets the better of me.

  • That it’s something that happens to all of us does not make it any easier to process. You still lose someone you love, sometimes very abruptly and while they could’ve easily lived years longer without an issue. You will never be able to speak to them, to see them in front of you, to hear their thoughts, to make new memories Witt them. Sometimes it also makes you lose a support network, a pivotal person that made your life better.

It may be normal, but he mental impact will in many cases be huge.

  • I’m aro/ace and honestly same. I refuse to use any longer acronym because to me it sounds silly.

In a similar fashion, I’m also not a major fan of the pride flags with more than the rainbow. It’s fine for special occasions in order to draw attention to a cause that needs it, but not as the default. Adding black stripes, the trans flag, and intersex flag all at the same time seems ridiculous to me, and it only invites other groups to feel left out. Adding the black stripes, the trans flag, the intersex flag, or whatever to the flag for some event, protest, or personal reason is great but imo we shouldn’t permanently muddy the flag like that.

  • Yeah same. It makes the elections quite annoying because I agree with the local green party in almost every other way. But to me nuclear power is an important way to get reliable green energy. Something that still provides energy when the wind is not blowing and the sun isn’t shining. And to me some of the arguments feel way too “feeling based” instead of facts based. That its unsafe or dirty.

Preferably we’d have fusion, but until we manage to get that going I think nuclear fission is a decent alternative. Not forever, but for the coming 50-100 years until we find a better alternative.

  • We played this game called Icarus last weekend because of a free weekend. It was okay for me, but I also have a pretty high-end PC for the 1080p monitor connected to it. Even for me the game was quite janky, but for my friends with older hardware the game wasn’t a good time. One friend’s microphone randomly turned into a max-volume noise generator while playing on multiple occasions, something that has never happened before. Another (who plays on Linux) experienced constant crashes and weird behaviour.

After that disappointment we went back in time to The Showdown Effect for the first time in years, which was still as hilarious as ever. Apparently there’s an updated free to play version now (called reloaded or something?) so we’d have to check that out. Would recommend it if you’re looking to have some mayhem with friends .

Edit: oh yeah and I also bought Grid Legends because it has a big sale and I like racing games. The driving physics don’t annoy me like the ones in The Crew or Forza so I’m having a good time with it till now

  • Same. At some point I became friends with pretty religious people who were also some of the most intelligent and nice people I had met. My beliefs that religious people are just dumb people who cannot understand the complexity of the real world kinda fell apart then.

I returned back to my pre-teen opinion, still an atheist but with compassion for other people’s beliefs. No need to constantly force my opinion into it or needlessly be a dick because we disagree. I’ve had many interesting discussions since then with very religious people. I still don’t fully get it, and to me it still reeks of indoctrination, but I’ve accepted that it’s fine to disagree.
