Ive got 16gb in the work-provided machine… And I can safely say that more than half is just autostart crap.

Since I only use it for messaging/email, I don’t much care tbh. Just kind of a fun to note for the laughs though.

This is why I’m glad I mostly just use it for teams, everything else is pretty much ssh from my main workstation (debian).

Oh definitely. Its shut down every day, has a dedicated dock in the home office, and I open it at 9am.

Thats when I get my coffee and snack. Its just surprising how much longer I can sit and sip before starting now.

Its horrendous, my work windows laptop the amount of crap just loading at startup is getting stupid.

Such a wild time… I started building PCs for people (even my gym teacher), it was so fun - and yeah, such a huge jump every time!

Now I have the same build for nearly 15 years with upgrades along the way, and my servers are all decom’d t/m/m PCs.

But I skipped from my 286 to a Pentium 133 (then went a bit backwards to a 486 dx100, then ahead to some cyrix and AMD).

Only thing I care about is the quality.

I could not possibly care less about a brand name other than (in some situations) it being an indicator of quality. Which also tends to drop over time.

I’d absolutely buy direct from China. Wouldn’t be the first time for me. The only question is whether these are quality products or not.

Totally fine to have KDE set up aesthetically as you please.

They like how gnome looks, not as much how it works.

I’d recommend looking at the instance those folks are coming from. You may notice some similarity with those users.

Probably where I’ll go next, I have until the end of February and then my business will be elsewhere.

Since I set up some family at the same time, I’ll be doing it for a few accounts.

I won’t use gnome (I’ve mentioned elsewhere), and unsurprisingly I just dont like it either. The design choices are restrictive, the environment is oversimplified - its just not for me.

Ive used lots of DEs over the years, even fvwm95 (the original, its neat that some folks have updated it though), and at this point if its a desktop its getting KDE.

Tape is still the best long term storage medium though.

I will never, ever touch Gnome. I get it.

If the noise will interrupt daytime work they will. Or if its close to the deadline and the GC is going to owe a ton of money for being late. Or they have to do some core drills above an occupied floor.

The rare part would be alone and not part of a crew, and more telling, being near the front desk. Construction in a building with a front desk is usually forced to go through the freight entrance only.
