DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Anyone else feel that Lemmy just *isn't* addictive?English1·2 years agoY’all need to start sorting by top posts the past 6 hours. Changed Lemmy for me. Right now the algorithm for hot and active is too stale.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Open Source@lemmy.ml•I released Treedome 0.3, an open source, local only, encrypted note taking app!English3·2 years agoI use Notion for organizing my DnD campaign. Love how this is looking so far. I’ll add a feature request for linking to other pages, and implementation of a table in each note. Thanks for your work!
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Android users who don't use the stock launcher - what launcher do you use, and what do you like about it?English1·2 years agoUnfortunately not. I looked thoroughly for one.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Android users who don't use the stock launcher - what launcher do you use, and what do you like about it?English2·2 years agoI use the same. It’s simple and beautiful.
No 2fa…yet. It’s in the works. For now you should be using an email to register. If not I don’t know what instance you are on as Lemmy by default requires an email.

DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@beehaw.org•How to Kill a Decentralised Network (such as the Fediverse)2·2 years agoAgreed that would be a huge pain.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@beehaw.org•How to Kill a Decentralised Network (such as the Fediverse)3·2 years agoA lot of server owners do this already. The instance I’m on for example does this and also disclosed that they would donate any “proceeds” to the development of Lemmy. So they are only paying for upkeep costs.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@beehaw.org•How to Kill a Decentralised Network (such as the Fediverse)7·2 years agoAs of right now, yes your account would go poof. Mastodon currently has a way to migrate servers, but it hasn’t been implemented in Lemmy yet. I’m sure at some point it will become available, but if you are worried about all your posts I’d make local backups for now.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@beehaw.org•How to Kill a Decentralised Network (such as the Fediverse)35·2 years agoGreat fucking article. Nice look into the history of proprietary software. This part stuck out to me:
But there’s one thing my own experience with XMPP and OOXML taught me: if Meta joins the Fediverse, Meta will be the only one winning. In fact, reactions show that they are already winning: the Fediverse is split between blocking Meta or not. If that happens, this would mean a fragmented, frustrating two-tier fediverse with little appeal for newcomers.
We need to convince instance owners not to federate with Meta. History tends to repeat itself and I’d rather not see this nice little corner of the internet die.

The only benefit I really see from sustained growth is the growth of smaller sub-communities. Something like /c/vivariums or /c/modeltrains. The larger lemmy is the more likely there will be fresh content in those smaller communities.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Gaming@beehaw.org•What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gamingEnglish9·2 years agoWas about to say that there is no cutoff age. I distinctly remember my grandfather playing RPGs on the Super Nintendo when I was a kid. That man played most of his life and well into his older years. Do what you love to do man. Ignore those who don’t appreciate that you have a hobby you actually enjoy.
DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.ml•As Reddit Crushes Protests, Its User Traffic Returns to NormalEnglish5·2 years agoHonestly I’d rather have a smaller community to interact with. Less bullshit that way.
There is no need for an actual installed adblocker. You can simply change system wide DNS to block ads. You can really use any DNS you choose, but I’d suggest mullvads DNS.

Look for “private DNS” on your phone, or switch it on your browser if on desktop.
