Yeah I have almost no apps on my Home Screen. Just one page of widgets, and 3 pinned to the bottom.
Otherwise if I want an app I just use spotlight. Quick swipe down and the first letter or 2 of any app and I’m in. I almost never touch the App Library.
This prob comes from using spotlight so much on Mac as well though.
I haven’t had one myself for a while, really anymore I just see it when watching vids on the flip phones or tablets it seems.
But android gave me the reason to switch (the messy apps) years ago, and apple hasn’t given me a reason to switch back yet.
It very well might be fine now, but until apple does something similar enough to push me to switch again, I won’t know haha.
It really just depends on if you prefer customization or reliability.
For example, I’m an apple boi because I like that every app in the store is made specifically for an iPhone (which is easy for devs to do since there’s little variation). It leads to better maintained and performing apps because devs can optimize for the device it’s running on.
On android, you have way more choices, which some people prefer. But for myself, I get really annoyed when I launch an app and it fills 95% of my screen, but not all of it, because my phone is slightly taller then the 2000 other variations out there. It’s much harder for a dev to optimize their app when there are so many variables to account for on android.
Neither phone (or company for that fact) is better. They serve different demographics of users is all.
Ooh. Bloodborne too me years due to this…. Better times back then lol 10/10 would suffer again.
It’s not minimizing the difference. It’s talking about an entire different problem. You seem to be in the wrong conversation.

BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Microsoft Teams bug allows malware delivery from external accounts6·2 years agoTeams actively makes my job harder. The one thing it’s supposed to do for me is help me communicate with my team.
the whole “conversations” instead of threads sucks. The fact that it brings a convo to the bottom if someone reply’s to it causes people to constantly miss messages in other convos.
I have to actively wiggle my mouse and click on stuff to get it to update and show me new messages. And even that doesn’t always do it. So I can’t just leave my laptop open and monitor it, I have to actively go click around every 10 mins to see if there’s a message.
it fails to send me notifications for meetings, and sometimes sends them to me like a hr after the meeting happened.
sometimes I’ll see a message on my phone (I have teams there only because the notifications are more reliable) and then I’ll go to the computer to respond and it’s just gone. Never showed up. I KNOW THE MESSAGE IS THERE TEAMS YOU SENT IT TO MY PHONE WHY ISNT IT ON THE FUCKING PC
The list goes on.

Clearly it’s not going to replace Reddit overnight, but it’s made large strides very suddenly, and can def close that gap over time. Especially for people like me who enjoyed Reddit, but were just browsers, not really power users
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit CEO Steve Huffman is fighting a losing battle against the site's moderators6·2 years agoMy exact feels. I had never heard of the fediverse or whatever, and still don’t even know if I spelled it right lol.
But I just picked the first server that had a good amount of people on it, off a recommended list, and it’s been fine.
To sign up I had to answer 3 super simple subjective questions. Took 2 mins. Had to wait to get approved, but in the meantime I could still browse so it really didn’t matter.
To me, the hard part was learning lemmy/kbin/beehaw etc existed.

Wouldn’t it just be horrible if it was easier for people to participate in a democracy? Thank goodness for them stronk republicans! /s
I don’t play Splatoon, so I have no context. But objectively, Mint Chip is the correct answer here.
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit CEO Steve Huffman is fighting a losing battle against the site's moderators10·2 years agoIm pretty close to this as well. I think if they did a 180, and like, showed an ACTUAL attempt to right the ship, I would consider going back via Apollo.
But that said, I’ve been using Lemmy this week, and out of curiosity I’ve been comparing it with my reddit feed at the end of the day, and yeah. I really haven’t missed out on anything important.
I mostly used Reddit as a way to waste time, or get info on the latest big things, like all the Trump stuff for example, and Lemmy is doing just fine getting me that kind of info.

BReel@lemmy.oneto World News@beehaw.org•America's housing shortage is keeping home prices high2·2 years agoThe only reason I got away from renting, even with the interest, was that it was still gonna be $100 cheaper, except +1 bed +1 bath and I actually OWN it.
Plus, with my loan the interest rate can’t go any higher, but can be refinanced if things go lower. So since I was basically break even on the current interest, I decided to take it.

BReel@lemmy.oneto World News@beehaw.org•America's housing shortage is keeping home prices highEnglish16·2 years agoThis 100%. There is no shortage of physical houses. There is a shortage of AFFORDABLE houses.
I just went through the buying process. I don’t make any crazy money, but a totally fine amount, more then a lot of people (65k/year)
That meant even with a sizable down payment that I was rather lucky to have, my MAX was 200k. That meant I could afford like… 1/10 of the places for sale where I live.
You can also use Steam itself to run external launchers via proton! Might not be the best way, but it was super easy for a noob like me to figure out.
Let’s me play ffxiv (non steam) and bnet games quite easily!
