pensa@kbin.socialto Videos@lemmy.ml•YouTube blocks adblockers; will this be their downfall? [Louis Rossmann, 9:32]4·2 years agoIn that case, I look forward to downloading and torrent seeding my pirated youtube videos. DRM will not stop piracy. I will pirate the fuck out of youtube.
They could have made good money with a reasonable amount of ads but they are greedy and wanted huge and endless profits. They claim to need to make these changes to cover operating costs but they still post higher than expected profits every quarter. I stopped using google search, mail, calendar, and have grapheneOS on my phone. I used to be a google fanboy, but it is so bad now I can’t stand to open their page. Fuck the people that work at google that ruined one of the best ways to access all of human knowledge so they can afford another tesla.
pensa@kbin.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•After Axing Headlines, Elon Musk To Hide Retweet, Like Buttons On Twitter11·2 years agoCould he though? I don’t think he is that smart. He has smart people running his other companies, but he is running the show at twitter. I think this is us seeing him fail when left on his own.
pensa@kbin.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•After Axing Headlines, Elon Musk To Hide Retweet, Like Buttons On Twitter11·2 years agoI think he knows it is a money pit that will never be profitable so is intentionally trying to kill it. It will never make him money only cost him money. He can’t just shut it down without seriously damaging what credibility he has left. Seriously, what are his options to stop this ‘money leak?’
Because it’s FOSS. I’m sure there are other reasons but if I am putting my pirated stash somewhere I don’t want a proprietary program to have full access.
In my experience, Jellyfin is better than Plex in every single way.

Yes, but usually not so far that the metal is showing. I learned from this video years ago. Having done tire changes with and without the luxury of a burnout. It is noticeably easier after the burnout.

Using uBO, even on youtube, supports the idea that there is a market for an adblocker and that it can be monetized. Which if you read my top comment in this thread…
When changing a motorcycle tire it helps to do a nice burnout before starting. It heats up the tire making it easier to pry off with tire irons.
pensa@kbin.socialto Technology@lemmy.ml•Looking at the uBlock Origin subreddit and reading the struggles people have with Youtube's new anti-adblock measures2·2 years agoNah. People should stop making careers out of tracking and selling peoples information.
pensa@kbin.socialto Technology@lemmy.ml•Looking at the uBlock Origin subreddit and reading the struggles people have with Youtube's new anti-adblock measures92·2 years agoI do not want my money to go to paying off publishers. I want my money going to support well funded and continuous development of a product that defeats their current business model. I hate being tracked and sold. I want the entire system to die.
pensa@kbin.socialto Technology@lemmy.ml•Looking at the uBlock Origin subreddit and reading the struggles people have with Youtube's new anti-adblock measures262·2 years agoI’m willing to pay a monthly subscription to help keep uBO fully functional. If I pay a subscription to a service like youtube to remove ads then I am only ad free on youtube. Whereas uBO blocks ads on everything.
I’ve long maintained that the majority of programmers working for Alphabet/Google/YouTube spent more time learning how to get the job than how to do the job well. There is a lot more to coding than “Cracking the Coding Interview.”
It’s not about building cool things over there. Is has not been that way for a long time. They just want the money and reputation.
