lorty@lemmygrad.mltoGames@lemmygrad.ml•What video games are you playing? What have you finished recently? What do you plan to play? - Video Game General Discussion Thread #293·2 months agoSuper hyped for the new raids in FFXIV. I really want to go in as Black Mage but I’m not sure if I’ll be doing well enough to prog with it.
I’ve also been playing Octopath Traveler on the side. The burst system makes the turn based combat far more engaging to me for some reason.
I’m not playing any 2025 games, in fact the only game I even know that released this year is the new Assassin’s Creed, and I quit that series a long time ago.
I don’t care for nintendo games, so all I know it’s that there has been a new metroid announced.
Do you feel a recommendation algorithm of some sorts is something lemmy will need for bigger audiences?
It’s just theatrics. They are as conservative as the Republicans.
I’m not unsatisfied and I very much appreciate the work put into proton, but it’s rather lame how common it is to have small problems that require tweaking. Just a few days ago I had to do the gamemode thingy(which slightly improves performance and tends to fix some performance issues) on Elden ring since I was getting small but noticeable stutters when moving about, and that’s a verified game.
I don’t mind putting in a bit of work to get something specific I want set up, but there’s a reason people want things to just work when it comes to their pastimes, and I feel Linux is still a bit far from that.
PS: I have no idea if Bazzite and other gaming distros have this issues, I use a general use one.
The average user doesn’t even know the registry exists.
Overall, I’m happy with Linux for everything. But it is a hard sell for your average person when you have to change the init configurations for every single game you download (even if it’s just for enabling gamemode).
Also I’m am very curious as to how you even got a bluescreen. I don’t even remember when I last saw one.
Not a big modern Civ fan but I’m sad my strategy game friends are bummed by it. Personally I feel like, with the development model these games have, Paradox style DLC policy is kind of inevitable.
Because its usefulness is not on the money-making side of business, so it wouldn’t make sense to buy.

It’s alright but if you really want it to be private, specially when in a public space, you should use a cable. It would be faster too.

lorty@lemmygrad.mlto Linux@lemmy.ml•Is using an HDD with an SSD as cache on Linux a good idea?1·6 months agoWhat I personally have is an NVME SSD for the games that need the maximum performance and/or I play a lot, and a slower SATA SSD for the other games where it doesn’t really matter.
Also, depending on the games you are playing, many expect to be able to stream assets and other data at SSD speeds, so your experience might be really bad.
lorty@lemmygrad.mlto PC Gaming@lemmy.ml•Budget gaming: steam deck or build a cheap gaming PC?3·6 months agoThe Steam deck is cool and I love mine but it can’t be upgraded other than the storage. There already are new games that run poorly, and sometimes because of linux, rather than hardware. So maybe getting one while saving up for a pc might be your best bet, specially if you are still looking at building a steam library.

Cheating makes stories, gets talked about by both sides and is overall contentious. Fidelity is literally having nothing to tell, so when a cheater talks, it seems like everyone is cheating, but that is far from the truth.
