Not to be a shill, but it exceeded my expectations! I use it often and with a hardwired PS5 I’ve had absolutely no network issues.

aCosmicWave@lemm.eeOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why haven’t we seen a peer-to-peer (P2P) social media platform yet?31·4 months agoNo need for real-time messaging or extensive message histories—it could be “survival of the fittest ideas.” Popular content stays seeded, while less popular content disappears when the poster goes offline.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why haven’t we seen a peer-to-peer (P2P) social media platform yet?22·4 months agoThat’s the crux of my question—why isn’t there a modern/beautiful social media platform built on the tried and true BitTorrent protocol? People already know how to torrent (or used to), and with a well-designed client, they wouldn’t even need to know it’s a P2P system.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why haven’t we seen a peer-to-peer (P2P) social media platform yet?111·4 months agoGreat points! Although in a truly decentralized system, users wouldn’t need to seed everything—only the posts or comments they upvote. This would give upvotes more weight, as users would be actively supporting and “hosting” content with their compute resources.
No mutability required. Unpopular posts and comments fade when the OP (seeder) goes offline.
Sorry and fixed! FYI my light mode is on during the day and off at night. I’m not a total monster!
You’re absolutely right, I don’t definitely don’t think that we are there!
Although I do believe that humanity has always trended this way—starting with sitting on rocks, then shaping trees to fit the contours of our physical bodies as chairs. Now, we’re trying to shape abstract knowledge and “thoughts” to fit the contours of our individual minds for similar reasons.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•whats something that brings you back to your childhood happy place?6·11 months agoFor me, it’s the simple memories of playing Quake 3 Arena on Friday nights after school. Crush soda in my cup. A fresh bagel in my hand. Freedom from the responsibilities of homework until Sunday night. I only had the one game so I’d spend the evening exploring different mods, trying to teach myself how to make levels (maps), and of course just frag noobs online until my eyes hurt. I’d stay up super late and when I’d wake up I literally couldn’t be more excited to do it all over again. It was glorious.
Semi-related anecdote…
During the debates my wife made a joke that Biden is so old he’s not even a Boomer. We then gave each other a look and pulled out our phones to check. Turns out it’s true, he is from the “Silent Generation”.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Of all movies that you gotta watch more than once to really understand, what is your favorite and why?2·1 year agoYou could also skip the movies and go straight to No Mans Sky, the video game.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Of all movies that you gotta watch more than once to really understand, what is your favorite and why?14·1 year agoVanilla Sky! It’s a truly mind bending movie, with an absolutely perfect soundtrack. I’ve probably seen this movie more than any other. I still find personal meaning in it 20+ years after my first watch as a kid when my older brother decided to see it in the theaters and took me along. I was confused but moved by it and I didn’t know why. Love came after the second watch.

aCosmicWave@lemm.eeOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the last video game that you were completely hooked on?1·1 year agoI almost went down that rabbit hole after watching the Netflix F1 show haha. Never watched a race before that.
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the last video game that you were completely hooked on?2·1 year agoThis looks right up my alley but unfortunately it’s not on PlayStation!
aCosmicWave@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was your first experience using the Internet?10·1 year agoI started pwning noobs online in Quake 3 Arena on my family PC. One day my older brother’s friend saw me playing and was like “… you do know you can use the mouse to aim?”
I did not know.
I somehow had mastered controlling the character like a tank with my keyboard.
Eeyore on Adavan
Despite all these omissions, it had alloy wheels and a spoiler from the factory!
Thanks for the laughs
The worst car I’ve ever driven was also the best because it lasted me until I was able to get on my own two feet and afford a new one: Nissan Sentra 97’.
- around 200,000 miles the engine literally began falling out from the bottom of the rusted frame. I took it to a mechanic and they ran a wire underneath to hold it in place. Drove it for 5 more years after that!
- Driver side window would not stay closed during Chicago winters so I glued it shut.
- Dashboard lights burnt out.
- Muffler would scrape across the pavement as I courted my girlfriend (now wife) around town.
Days off are a state of mind. I’m proud to say that my mind hasn’t worked in years!
Many years ago in high school, I got stranded after tennis practice. A super friendly Indian teammate offered me a ride home but mentioned, “just a heads up our car smells like dog.”
Coming from a sheltered and pretty racist household, I cluelessly replied, “It’s okay! I don’t mind the smell of Indian food!”
He gave me a look of quiet disappointment and said, “I meant our dog. She sheds a lot.”
The ride home was painfully silent. I still cringe thinking about it.
