I absolutely agree with your recommendation, but man if they’re looking for something short, the mistborn series is the opposite lol

It’s just such a charged and unnecessary word to use as a pejorative.
TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone know any Hard Sci Fi books about humans surviving without any hospitable worlds?3·1 year agoIt’s possible Just wasn’t the flavor I was looking for at the time. I’ll give another go at some point. I hear great things from people so it’s probably just send me a thing

Well fuck I’m suddenly looking at my pacemaker and the little box that sends the messages to the doctor with much more suspicion now.

TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Steam Deck@lemmy.ml•Steam Deck now has thousands more games than the Nintendo Switch4·1 year agoThat’s a really burnt me. I bought one big switch title game and it was pokémon shield. It was 60 bucks and I was so disappointed and there was no return. I got some small indie games, Hades on the switch was really fun. But after getting my steamed deck it just opened up all of the games that are already owned on my computer. Just quickly out classed me switch.
I do wish that I could take the controllers off the side of the steam deck and play it. Kind of like the switch. I know I can just use a wireless controller, but it was just kind of a nice form factor thing.

What era and place would you choose?15·1 year agoThe surgery that kept me alive at birth wasn’t invented until the late '80s. So I guess I would just be fucked no matter what. So put me wherever they want, any time before 1950 is going to suck ass for me.
Now assuming that part of my time travel comes with being able to fix my heart stuff. I would like to be born in the early 1900s. I can’t think of a single time where I’m not going to fight both war and awfulness in the general world. But at least then I could be around for some cool developments.
TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a video game that you'd love to play, but no one has developed yet?7·1 year agoYeah, but have you checked out frets on fire. It too can have your own music. Although… That’s even further from a vampire survivor game.
TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Gaming@beehaw.org•Stardew Valley Expanded exceeded its creator’s wildest dreams7·1 year agoAlso, to piggyback onto your comment. Stardew valley without mods is still a very enjoyable game. I had about 300 hours in the game before I installed my first mod. There’s a lot of great quality of life ones, but out of the box it’s still phenomenal.
TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Where else on the web does everyone hang out?23·2 years agoHonestly, I read more, do more gardening, play more videogames. Kinda a weird benefit, but I joined two book clubs and a walking group. Started going to a parenting group on Sundays so my kiddo and I are making more friends. I guess reddit just pissed me off enough to go out and be more in my community. It’s kinda nice.
I mean. Maybe that’s why he was squatting under the tree?
I had a really hard time with my parents, but the book “adult children of emotionally immature parents” really helped me understand that it wasn’t my fault that my parents were pieces of shit.

TheaoneAndOnly27@kbin.socialto Books@lemmy.ml•What do you want to see in this community that differs from other book communities?3·2 years agoI’d love it if we started a small little book club. I actually like reading books and talking to other people about them a lot. And I just think that would be super fun. All the ones that were on Reddit were just so many people talking that I just felt too anxious to even post.
Oh I absolutely agree with you about the sequels as well. I tried reading the one that takes place more of like the Victorian era and just could not get into it
