I have flood lights outside I put together from fog lights, motion sensors and lux level sensors, just in case something comes up on us in the night. I’m off-grid and battery power is always at a premium, so usage sensors are a hedge I’m willing to make.
SoylentBlake@lemm.eeto Technology@beehaw.org•Walgreens Replaced Fridge Doors With Smart Screens. It’s Now a $200 Million Fiasco.English6·4 months agoHey thanks for fleshing that out for me. That takes me back, makes me think of sitting in my room listening to RATM I just downloaded and burned off Napster and defragging the computer.
I miss the Internet of old. Before everyone got on it. We had hope then
SoylentBlake@lemm.eeto Technology@beehaw.org•Walgreens Replaced Fridge Doors With Smart Screens. It’s Now a $200 Million Fiasco.English4·4 months agoIn tech, SMART is an acronym. I shit you zero nots, this is for real.
Self Monitoring And Reporting Technologies
Fuck SMART everything. I am fundamentally at odds with telemetry, what is it up to half our mobile data plans are lost to advertisers? W.t.f.
SoylentBlake@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Excuse the old man question, but if I buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max outright, with no carrier. I can set it up with my current carrier easily?English21·5 months agoThat’s why he said “old guy question”.
I graduated in 99. I can take cell phones apart and put them back together all day but ANYTHING to do with the carriers I have negative interest in. I would rather eat paint chips while listening to harpies screeching. I just can’t be made to care.
There’s always just some people, with everything, who just don’t fucking care and nothing will ever change that. With every subject.
With homeboy here, I would t spend 1300 on a phone. Ever. I’d go out, today at this point in history, and buy a used pixel 7 (or 8 if priced right), root it and put GrapheneOS on it, but that’s just me.
The only way to have money is to not spend it and very few things are worth feeling the despair that can come with being broke. At this point in my life, there’s nothing that I can think of that’s worth being broke over. Not one single thing out there.

It’s up to the prosecutor if it’s worth the expense or not.
So if I were to take one of them cars and drive out to the middle of nowhere in the desert where there’s no cell service, what’s it gonna do? Shut off once it’s roaming? Not start back up and strand me in 115° heat? I just want to be prepared for my lawsuit that’s all

Letting the bankers take the wheel in the 80s has cannibalized the health of all Western society and commodified whatever was left.
We were told to worship no one other than God/the source/the creator/the allfather/the universe/the truth/whatever you want to call it…but all I see is worship of another invisible diety, this invisible hand of the market - easily the most worshipped god in the modern day. Capitalism is incapable of bringing about salvation, unless you believe in accelerationism, and then everyone participating is gonna be found wanting.
Like, capitalism has failed to even create a society where it’s own people want to breed in. Something so easy for us and we would rather throw it all away, myself included. For comparison, Mozart had 11 children. 2 survived into adulthood.

In the same vein, all the techbros who voted for Trump are gonna be real asshurt once immigration exemptions are made for tech workers
Like silicon valley is gonna be forced to pay market rate for American talent, pffh, c’mon now. Wages are like prices but the opposite. Prices always go up and never back down. Wages always come down and never go back up. Tech workers enshittification will commence at triple pace now
Politics is nothing but coordinated violence, in that it is nothing but coercion of people against their own interests. If you’re an interested party, than youre adding to the coercion of others. If you stay out of it, then it’s not political to you is it?
Politics:violence
Politics:economics
Economics:violence
Try telling people whose rent has doubled or tripled within a decade that economics isn’t violence. You’ll experience some carnal violence in return, I’m sure.
Politics = violence; it’s the NC-17 version, violence all grown up and sophisticated. Sanitized for TV, in it for the sound bites. In fact, I’d say at least half of it is theatre alone. It’s even been packaged up for the people to play along from home. The evolution of violence, fun for the whole family. I mean, what else would we talk about come holidays? HELPING each other?!?

Women should sue higher education writ large for the swindle that is a psych degree. Any promise that it would lead to work was a known lie. That shit is crack to women. Go figure out yourself, and other people, sprinkle in true crime and look at that. Dean’s were more predatory than pimps.

At+t tried to slap em with some exorbitant long distance charges and Uncle Sam got tired of the fuck around.
To today; Google’s been showing the wrong people the wrong kind of ads. Showing representatives ads for laundromats and daycares that offer drivinga ed after looking up how to launder money and traffic children. NO google, I did NOT mean THAT

SoylentBlake@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you seen someone die in front of you?English34·1 year agoI witnessed 5 police officers all hit a man on the ground with their tasers. Broad daylight.
Died on the scene of a heart attack. Apparently natural causes. The polices internal investigations found the police did no wrong, imagine that.
Unless you make enough money that you can regularly “donate” to the force, I suggest that you assume they are not there to help you and you protect yourself accordingly
SoylentBlake@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.ml•Samsung forces repair stores to destroy customer smartphones, iFixit ends cooperationEnglish35·1 year agoThey are thinking the got the customer by the balls because they’re a state sanctioned monopoly. They’re so big the CEO of Samsung has essentially the same power as the SK president.
Every major corp out of SK is a state sanctioned monopoly. The government tells Samsung “make washing machines now” and Samsung does.
I know it’s been widely overlooked to allow South Korea to economically develop after the armistice, cold war and all, but at some point the rest of the free trading world is going to have to hit them with tariffs to protect native, or critical industries.
Frankly I’m really tired of looking the other way for any reason. Every other day it’s a headline about how some government or multinational led the public on a 20 year gaslighting campaign. If I were to say, “hey did you hear that story about XXXY(any well known mega corp)?” Do you think I’d have a positive wholesome story to share? No. Because there never is. The structure of a corporation is set up to protect financiers from liability from the crimes theyre guaranteed to commit thru abusive, shortsighted, toxic business. It’s literally the fucking point. But we don’t have to accept that, and we don’t have to choke back and somehow keep down our sense of justice, or be passively complicit, which is to nueter your morality, your sense of self
Our individual actions do matter in this case. Like don’t buy shit off Temu, theyre using slave labor. Don’t endorse that. Don’t buy anything out of Dubai or Saudi Arabia, they, also, keep slaves. Don’t support slavery. Including wage slavery. Don’t do business with Israel until an non Zionist coalition is back in charge. Don’t buy anything Russian. Genocide is not an acceptable modern practice. It CAN’T be. Boycott Mississippi and Louisiana as well, since they like to let their prisoners die of treatable conditions and bury them in unmarked graves. That is ALSO a genocide. Don’t fucking fund crimes against humanity. This is kindergarten levels of sophistication.
And hopefully enough people will actually live their morals and gain seats of power, because we have to. Otherwise waves hands THIS.

The most common place to find .1" is on micrometers. And that’s just fine until you need to switch it back to imperial or metric for the next processing…which the rest of your tooling is in.
.1" is roughly 2.54mm
.1", fractionally is ~7/64
7/64 is roughly 2.77mm
See how this is recipe for disaster?
You do you boo but Metrics fucking awesome. It’s simple, conversions are super easy, etc. it’s just basic numbers. You can thoughtlessly multiply or divide (assuming you could thoughtlessly do that before).
You want a real shite headache? Try translating tenths of inches. I’d just burn the blueprints and tell them to try again.
I doubt it. Maybe there are differences, but there’s zero chance we have anything close to enough data that could draw correlations to negative effects. This is China, if not intentionally crafting data, then definitely broadcasting data that reinforces the cultural narrative they’ve already set. If the finding were to prove contrary to their brain rot position, I doubt they’d be broadcasting.
Just cuz a brain might work different doesn’t mean it’s bad. It took morning people, evening people, and nights watch people to keep us alive for the past millenni’i, why do morning people have a favored position in society? It’s bullshit and fucked up if you ask me. There’s medical evidence of sleep types, why can’t we use that to force a schedule change? Bring back night court, fuck.
I assume ADHD brains are different from neuroboring ones too, and as an ADHD brained individual I don’t consider it a disability, or a defect or detriment. I have traits I have learned to accommodate and traits I actively protect myself from, and they might not be neurotypical ons, the most common thousand or so nuerotypical problems, I dont have. And I think that life without endless curiosity with the ability to singularly deep dive any topic for essentially forever just wouldn’t be an existence worth living. I honestly feel I can do whatever it is I set myself too, regardless the complexity. I can’t imagine the world seen from despondent resignation.
Ive pondered more than once if I would be better off without the ADHD hyper sensitive sense of justice. I’ve said for years that I started this life off as lawful good and life’s caused me to slide all the way down to chaotic neutral.
