I’ve been using Garuda for… Two or three years? I’ve done a lot of distro-hopping looking for something that won’t just break on me. I used Ubuntu for a long time but kept running into situations where it would break, such as boot loops. Eventually I settled on Garuda because it ships with newer software and Nvidia drivers, which is helpful because I use my PC for gaming. I have stuck around because it’s garuda-update command automatically makes a backup of your system out of the box, and you can select to boot into a backup in grub then restore it really easily. There have been a couple times where something has broken on an update, but when that happens I can immediately restore the backup, and I don’t even need to remember to run a backup manually. I do feel that the default theme is a bit gaudy so I swapped it to a default KDE, but other than that I’ve had pretty much only good experiences with Garuda.

I don’t at all. It’s way too much noise and way too many people, I get overstimulated and have panic attacks. I think it’s actually wild that people enjoy it.
Are you explicitly looking for competitive multiplayer games? Single player shooters like Prey, or the BioShock games, might be able to fulfill what you’re looking for. I like Helldivers 2, as well. It’s not slow per se, but your fighting AI and not people so insane reflexes are far from important. It’s coop but very worth your time.

Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Linux@lemmy.ml•Newbie Post: I have gone "all-in" with Linux Mint 22.1, wiping Windows completely. All good...with two nagging problems.2·3 months agoThat’s very fair. I say this only because I’ve found myself going down a rabbit hole of things not working on my own before, and a reinstall is usually the faster option for me. POP was just one example, a lot of distributions come with Nvidia installed by default. Mint should work pretty much out of the box, but I remember Optimus being tricky sometimes. I do not recommend Manjaro, and not because it’s arch. The last time I used Manjaro, it’s automatic updater updated my Nvidia driver and my kernel to two separate versions that didn’t work with each other, and bricked my system on me. It’s not exceptionally stable even as far as Arch goes. Arch doesn’t have to be scary, I use Garuda and it has made it very user friendly. I run all updates with one command and that command automatically makes snapper backups that I can pick between on boot, which makes fixing anything that can go wrong pretty easy. Garuda Cinnamon edition uses the same desktop that mint uses. Anyway, I do hope you’re able to get mint working for you.

All good...with two nagging problems.23·3 months agoSometimes, the simplest option is to try a different distribution instead of messing with individual things that aren’t working on one. A lot of distributions come with the Nvidia drivers set up by default, such as POP OS. You could also try a fresh install of mint and install the Nvidia drivers using the driver manager application, and see if you’re getting the same results. As far as NTFS, that does have to change. You will keep running into problems if you don’t format them into something like ext4. When I first installed Linux, I had all my games on an NTFS drive and very few of them would work at all.

Palestinians have been forcibly relocated and had their land taken since the 40’s. I will say, is there any justification for the destruction and genocide Israel is committing? They’ve destroyed practically ALL infrastructure in Gaza including hospitals, they’ve got snipers shooting kids, targeting UN aid workers. Hamas and hostages are convenient excuses for them to keep doing what they started in the 40’s - killing an entire native population and taking their land.

The only way to do that with iphone is to get a phone that’s both old and used. There’s no new options in that price range at all. However, even if there was, or if I just bought used, it doesn’t offer me any benefit to swap. My experience with ios was never very good back when I did use it, it restricts how you can use your phone really heavily. I love being able to install apps from F-droid or my web browser, and changing launchers gives you a lot of customization of your home screen. I also really value that once your android device isn’t supported with software updates anymore, the community can still develop up to date android versions for those devices so you can use newer versions of android than the manufacturers intended
It’s hard to make direct “better” or “worse” comparisons between distros. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages. They’re really similar and offer similar beginner-friendly experiences. I disliked that popOS doesn’t use Grub, I ran into issues getting the bootloader to show my windows drive.

Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•US Lemmys what could Biden do in the next 6 months to EARN your vote? (other than just not being Trump)41·1 year agoRespectfully, I understand the idea of voting for a liberal candidate as harm reduction, and have done so in the past. But every time I have done so, such as with the last election, the government causing harm has continued, to an insane extent. Voting is one political action you can take, but it is not everything you should be doing, and I believe in having standards for candidates I’m willing to give my vote. Biden is not one of them.
Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•US Lemmys what could Biden do in the next 6 months to EARN your vote? (other than just not being Trump)1521·1 year agoNothing. I don’t vote for people who fund genocide.
A lot is going to vary depending on the exact game you play, strategies and game mechanics can be super different. The best way is to find a character that you really like and focus on having a good time. It’s a genre built off of learning from failure, so you’ve got to try your moves in different situations and see what works. You can practice moves against bots to find what situations they work well in, and plenty of people post combos you can learn online. Just gotta lose a lot.

That way, I can put the ports down while my phone is in my pocket if i’m working, so nothing gets into the ports. Then, if I’m just keeping my phone in my pocket normally, with the ports up, my headphones can plug in without problems.

Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To everyone who hates the concepts of landlords and rent, what counts as being a landlord?104·1 year agoI take issue with the entire concept of renting, from the very core. A landlord is a middle-man between the person living in a building, and ownership of said building. The landlord having to to the maintenance doesn’t make living in a rental a better experience, it just means more dealing with a middle man any time you need something fixed. It would be pretty nice if I could just call a plumber when my toilet has issues instead of hoping that the leasing office actually sends a repair-man this time. It’s not fun having to pick up mail at the post office for ten months because the leasing office and the post office are arguing back and forth over who’s responsible for fixing the apartment mailboxes after they were vandalized. Rentals will charge you money every month for a pool you don’t want or use even though it’s closed 9 months of the year. All renting has ever meant for me, has been a complete lack of control of what I’m allowed to do in my living space, and a constant fear of eviction should something go wrong, and landlords that do everything they can to never repair anything, or maintain the property at all. But onto the individuals that rent out a house or two, they still aren’t adding value to living in a rental. All they do is sit in the middle and collect that extra cash on top. It’s not that they’re not doing any work at all, but being a landlord is not a job, and it’s not doing the people living in that space any favors. People can’t afford to buy because companies like blackrock are buying up all the property to make rentals, and upcharging all of the property. I’m not saying, either, that there shouldn’t be options for temporary living, but our current rental model is so very clearly not it. Do you have any idea how much it costs to rent month buy month? My 700 square foot apartment is over $3,000 on that plan.
Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To everyone who hates the concepts of landlords and rent, what counts as being a landlord?162·1 year agoDeserving of the guillotine? What? This question doesn’t feel sincere, and I wonder whether you’re really going to be trying to understand other people’s reasoning. I’ll bite though. We have enough homes for everyone to have their own home, but a very large number of people rent or are homeless. Big corporations buy up all the property and convert it to rentals so even those who can afford to buy property have a very hard time finding anything, and what’s available has jacked up prices. We’re talking people like blackrock. THOSE people can burn in hell, those people are taking advantage of every single person who rents from them. It’s a scale, you know. Blackrock is evil - my grandpa who rents out his old house is not, even if I disagree with the fact that he’s renting at all. Charging someone enough to pay the mortgage and give you a paycheck is well… I mean it’s demanding more money than what the property is worth from someone. They’d be better off without you there as a middle-man. At best you’re taking advantage of a small number of people, at worst you’re literally blackrock. There’s no reason a single person should not have their own home, because we already have enough homes to go around.
