Dav@kbin.socialto Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Bots are trying to join my instance now through the application requirement6·2 years agoOk now pretend you are in the bot eliminating business and you are showing us how to permanently eliminate all the bots. Continue until all of them are gone.
Defederating wouldn’t disrupt them, your source is about the removal of leadership/core memebers in online hate organisations. Something I imagine would happen rather quickly on this platform when those people get banned for racism.
That being said I took a look at the community and there’s like 3 accounts posting pro-trump posts. Not exactly a community…they’re probably already isolating themselves on a different website.
I totally agree, I just think as an overall community we could report/brigade the racism, rather than allow it to grow unchecked. Maybe I’m wrong.
Just wanted to throw some support for you out there, I’m not at all a trump fan but social media driven echo chambers are half the reason the worst political ideals are spreading. Unfortunately there’s not an easy answer to this, but I don’t think defederation is it.
Chocolate not making this list is the greatest faliure of the modern age.
Dav@kbin.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•Dispelling the myth of a universal "Lemmy" community, and discussion of what the fediverse really is2·2 years ago- They can choose who to defederate, pretty sure beehaw has already done so with lemmy.ml and others.
- I think every instance is different but on some if you try to sub to a defederated community it’ll get stuck on ‘pending’, also you’ll probably see a lot of posts about it. It doesn’t seem to be something that’ll happen often.
Does it help if I tell you that’s Mozart and Cinderella.
Dav@kbin.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•Dispelling the myth of a universal "Lemmy" community, and discussion of what the fediverse really is5·2 years agoHere’s an analogy, hope it helps:
Kbin.social and beehaw.org are like really advanced email servers (e.g. outlook.com, gmail.com)
The content you’re seeing on kbin is like viewing an email sent from another server, in the case of this thread you’re getting content from beehaw.org.
These aren’t just normal emails, they’re super advanced emails with comments, replies, categories, votes etc.
The content is downloaded to the kbin servers for your viewing pleasure, and you can send an ‘email’ back to beehaw by engaging in their posts/communities like you’re doing now. That will send what you’ve done back to beehaw so it’s all synced up for their users. If beehaw ever goes down/gets unlinked from kbin you’ll still have the old ‘emails’ (content) but you won’t be able to engage with them anymore. Like if someone deleted their email account it doesn’t delete all the emails they sent to other people.
if im getting nugs at 2 in the morning I’ve lost control of both my life and my finances.

My grandad was on the HMS Arethusa playing poker with shipmates in WW2, went to the toilet on another part of the ship just as it was bombed. All the other poker players he left were killed.
I also sometimes think about how my grandad’s bowel movements creating my entire family line.
