I managed to convince my friends to give Matrix a try. Among us we span almost all platforms. Any ideas on what clients to use would be much appreciated.
Really just Element, since every other desktop client lacks features and/or looks bad. The only downside is that it’s an Electron app.
On PC: Fractal, because is fast and simple. On Smartphones: Element (F-Droid version), because it works better on my smartphone than other clients like FluffyChat.
Element because it supports everything and I don’t mind running it in my browser. I self-host it for that purpose. You and your friends should probably all use Element.
SchildiChat (Element derivate) on mobile because Element works best plus SC has some nice features added like UnifiedPush and a unified list for direct and group chats.
I’m on Linux using nheko. Works great. I’m using kde, so that’s why I use nheko over fractal.
And have you tried NeoChat? I’ve heard that it also works well (although I haven’t tried it because I use GNOME and I like Fractal).
Not yet, because nheko just works :-)
Element on both PC & Phone
Cinny because,… eh,… is there any PWA-alternative for touchies?
Never had to use anything else than element mostly the android and desktop version. From what I know the few users on my server (~15) use element as well, android, ios and desktop.
Ferdium on Linux. Element or Fluffychat on my phone and tablet.
I tried Fluffychat from FDroid, buy it crashes as soon as I open it.
I have the same issue, but haven’t found a solution yet.
you need to download the apk directly from the fluffychat repositories.
Thanks, in the meantime also the version from fdroid works again.
I’ve only used FluffyChat so far and it seems to be nice. I have no contacts on there though, so haven’t used it much outside of a few rando groups.
SchildiChat is my go-to on mobile. It’s Element with some solid changes on it.

I’ve only tried Element. But I actually uninstalled because it was killing my battery.
@Delusion6903 @incici element uses polling. Try using ntfy unified push along with it. <2% battery usage per day.
