Is this a Futurama reference?

I far prefer it when someone refers to themselves as the parent of a pet over when someone refers to the pet as a kid.
Ideally neither, but one is less off-putting than the other, IMHO.
I still remember looking up alt codes on the character map.
I haven’t had to represent degrees in decades, but for some reason I remembered the code being 0961. According to this page it was 0176. What a classic blunder!
Here I thought that was the cleftal horizon.
That’s … Pretty depressing.
I was going to post a note about typewriters, allegedly from Tom Hanks, which I saw years and years ago; but I can’t find it.
Turns out there’s a lot of Tom Hanks typewriter content out there.
I thought that was pretty typical.
Somewhat frequently, I drive by a nearby house with a wide window clearly visible from the road. Almost every time I drive by it, there’s a dog very similar to this one in the window. It’s not a bay window, which makes me think the dog’s owner(s) must have put a table right in front of the window specifically for the dog to be able to lay there and watch life go by.
I think that’s very sweet.
This is how I feel any time I meet what might be either one or two people in disparate circumstances without context or preparation.
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[Serious] How can a glass shower pane shatter by itself?2·2 months agoIf it genuinely helped, I’m genuinely happy to have done so.
My shower door hasn’t shattered, but it has its own problems - I’m pretty sure the previous owner of the house tried to make it luxurious but had no idea what he was doing (as is tradition). Hoping I can learn some things about glass shower panes myself!

toynbee@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[Serious] How can a glass shower pane shatter by itself?9·2 months agoWhile this isn’t about shower panes and the specific details probably don’t apply to your shower (well, hopefully), NileRed has a video demonstrating how glass that looks undamaged can have small stresses or flaws that cause it to spontaneously shatter.
Every time I see a post with this caption, the environment largely looks fine, but there are consistently two issues:
- Poor seating (especially visible in this picture, where I didn’t notice a chair and sitting on a fixture would strain your back over time)
- Neck strain (usually by having the TV sit on the floor, so you’d have to crane your neck to see it)
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Apparently, 12% of Technology Workers Believe that MacOS is based on Linux41·2 months agoA little passive-aggressive of you
That’s a fair interpretation, but in fact I was trying to avoid the appearance of passive aggression by providing a reason for my exiting the conversation, rather than just bailing.
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Apparently, 12% of Technology Workers Believe that MacOS is based on Linux6·2 months agoAh. Well, I have questions or comments I could make about the license. However, while I feel passionately about Unix and Linux and OSS in general, I don’t think I have anything useful or interesting to add to the thread that hasn’t already been said.
I wish you luck both with finding engaging conversation and with your licensing.
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Apparently, 12% of Technology Workers Believe that MacOS is based on Linux12·2 months agoI kind of suspected it might be something like that, but it was a genuine query that, yes, was intended to be mildly humorous. I don’t intentionally annoy except maybe my wife.
Your indirect accusation made me smirk, but as far as I’ve noticed you’re the only one who does this without doing it on every comment, which seemed interesting enough to observe.

Excellent! I like it.
