Hitman wasn’t really a sandbox until Freelancer mode was added. The story mode has always been pretty linear. Same level order, same objectives every time. I’m not expecting my choices to matter to the narrative, but I am expecting to be able to choose between quiet and loud, lethal and non-lethal etc. to finish the given mission which should be a pretty low bar.

If there isn’t a ton of play style variety like Hitman then it will suck. Play your way is the fun part. I’m a SASO type player and that fits into a more realistic sim but Bond also goes loud and wacky a lot in the movies too.
I haven’t watched a single trailer for this, but I’m hyped solely because IOI did great things with Hitman, and being a (movie) spy is similar except your objectives aren’t always assassination.
Couldn’t really care less about the Bond angle, but since it’s a reboot of his story, don’t really think that matters much.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's a good protest song for anti-war, anti-ice, and anti-oligarchy?
3·3 months agoUpvote for Jesse Welles. I appreciate his music can be topical, but also humorous and chill. Maybe not the sort of protest songs you play to fire people up, but definitely ones that will get their message stuck in your head.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Firefox 149 vs. Chrome 147 Web Browser Performance On Linux
25·3 months agoYeah, couldn’t care less if Chrome is faster when it is controlled by Google and actively working against extensions.
Not to mention we crossed a performance line maybe 10 years ago where browser engines on modern processors are basically trivial. Once we started having 8+ threads and the browsers got smart enough to leverage them, I’d bet bandwidth (or memory if you have many tabs), is a way more typical bottleneck.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•So uh is this a normal ocurrence or have I been blessed by Mozilla?
11·3 months agoI’m also generally skeptical, but the fact that it’s a coupon code and a token amount makes me think it’s legit. You shouldn’t need to give up any personal info to redeem a coupon.
My dad likes Dire Straits, Clapton, The Police, Tracy Chapman, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison. I know a few more from what he’s told me later in life, but those were the casettes/CDs he had around when I was a kid.
When I was a teen I tried to introduce him to the Pixies, but he looked like I was making his ears bleed.
It was my mom that introduced me to Pink Floyd though, which is really the only musical common ground I have with my parents (although I will definitely get whiskey drunk and belt out Dire Straits on occasion, or sing along to Orbison).
Imo’s in St. Louis is my favorite overall. Thin, crispy crust, square cut, Provel as the base cheese. It scratches an itch that all other pizzas don’t. I’d eat it 7 days a week if I could, hot or cold.
I’ve had pizzas with superior ingredients, made in fancy ovens, served with wine instead of cold beer, but if I could get any pizza right now, it’d be Imo’s black olive or veggie pizza.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What book, movie, etc. do you wish there was more of?
4·5 months agoAnother person of refinement and good taste, I see. Both gone way too early. I have been rationing Discworld since Pratchett died.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I dumped Windows 11 for Linux, and you should too
5·6 months agoI have a wife stuck in the Adobe-verse and yeah, going back that far should work great. It didn’t become a huge hassle until they started being insane with the licensing.

Chess@lemmy.ml•An oppnonent of mine with a funny name resigned after playing Nd6.
31·6 months agoChess is like any other multiplayer game in one regard. Anonymous match ups turn people into assholes. Resigning at the drop of a hat isn’t too terrible, but it’s just something you wouldn’t do if you were playing a friendly game in person.
I play Stockfish exclusively now, fuck a rating, because for the brief time I was playing real people it seemed like every other match I’d get someone yelling in the chat, asking for moves back when they blunder, or just resigning when it started going against them. Especially with time pressure it’s just not worth it when you have an infinitely patient, world class chess opponent on call 24/7.
So traditional it’s like a Norman Rockwell painting.
I subbed, but I think puzzle content is welcome here.

Books@lemmy.ml•Any good books on the relationship between anarchism and communism?
23·8 months agoI am also interested in this, but don’t have good examples.
Ultimately, a lot of anarchist texts are describing anarcho-communist societies, but historically when communists and anarchists disagree, the communists ignore/fight them, or the revolution gets crushed before either really get a say.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Valve's new Steam Machine and Steam Frame and implications for Linux
3·8 months agoDefinitely agree. Had a couple of them and loved some of the ideas (touchpad sticks, gyro to mouse aim, all of the Steam Input flexibility) but they never really eclipsed my rechargeable Dualshocks in terms of feeling right. Taking some of the Deck’s refinements and giving it another spin is welcome.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you love that had a stupid plot but the execution was excellent?
12·9 months agoI put this on expecting a trainwreck and a cash grab too, but it still had me laughing my ass off. It really felt like they understood why the originals were so funny.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People whose parents have become fascist, how are you dealing with it?
81·9 months agoYeah, my parents are still basically the same liberal Democrats they were when I was a kid. Meanwhile I’ve gone farther left and the rest of the family mutated into a virulent strain of fascist.
I had no idea that this was coming out, and it sort of makes me want a PS5… And then I check the price and I think I can wait a couple of years until it’s on PC.

Almost never. Bumping the minimum architecture version and optimization levels is all well and good, but unless you’re doing tons of vector oriented workloads it’s not going to qualitatively make a difference.
