This is painfully true. I posted a story not too long ago about some architecture from hell I had to deal with at my day job. At first I hated the dev on the other team who came up with the idea; then I learned that the dev had only made it as a proof of concept to use for his team’s specific use case during some time the company sets aside for innovation. Someone in management saw a presentation he did on it and liked the idea so much he decreed that it needs to be used as the single source of truth for a core part of our application.
