Various stuff, some not best practice per se but here it is (more focused on digital sovereignity than anything else these days):

• Degoogled my android phone to the greatest degree without breaking essential stuff. Noticed better battery life so a unintended win
• moved off from Outlook to paid hosted email in my country. Cheap, reliable and have full control over it. Also in case of any issues way easier to get support
• Cancelled M365 subscription as I don’t use office and was using it purely for cheap OneDrive backup for family
• Moved all my files for me and my family off of OneDrive to my Synology NAS. Ended up using more of its functionality, happy with the purchase. Doing the occasional backup to the external drive just in case
• Ditched proprietary authentication apps in favor of Keepassxc. TOTP codes on any synced device so if I lose my mobile phone I don’t get locked out of anything. Local only was mandatory
• For work stuff I use ente auth, separating work and private MFA
• Replaced windows on all my machines with linux. Its become more user friendly in recent years and does not get in my way.
• Replaced all US service providers with EU ones where possible, if any service gets cut off for EU I won’t lose access to anything important, never know with Trump these days…

KDE plasma. Coming from 30 years of running exclusively windows it’s just the most comfortable and easy for me to use (way more than Gnome). Easily configurable, works. Can’t ask for more.

Those two are really the only good use cases today for facebook. Insane how Marketplace pretty much overnight almost killed local listing sites. Events I don’t see good alternatives, don’t have much hopes for that one, time will show

I just switched to Bazzite yesterday and it’s insane how far linux has come. Next-next and everything works, even on a nightmare combination of hardware (Lenovo Legion half assed uefi, amd apu+ nvidia gpu).

To be frank I have used it since it started way back and it continues to have the best user experience among messengers. I myself don’t use it for any crucial information but as a messenger with it’s featureset it’s second to none. When a better alternative pops up which will have a better UI and such an extensive featureset I will probably switch over

For the first time in a long time I might stick seeing the state of Linux today, especially Plasma 6. I’m eyeing Fedora 40 or Bazzite, tried Kinoite and pretty much everything I need works out of the box, the only thing I need to figure out is OneDrive.

You may hit the nail on the head, once you get the broom you just breeze past everyhring. The forbidden forest may be the most dense content wise on foot, everything after that does feel more sparse as it was designed with the broom in mind. All in all I still enjoyed the game and got my moneys worth out of it, I did pick it up rather cheap on a sale

I’m (still) using the regular Keepass but that is indeed a nice feature, might consider switching to it for TOTP. Thank you!

Damn, didn’t occur to me at all, I do use MicroG, but that still doesn’t explain late notifications on the iPhone. This is going on for quite some time, friends also report the same issues regardless of plaform

I’ve noticed notifications are working sporadically now for quite some time (at least half a year now) for both Android (both Play store version and APK) and iOS from my experience. Only on the deskptop version of it are notifications instant, hope they will fix it at some point

Bought Hogwarts Legacy a week or so on a deep discount and I’m enjoying the hell of it. During december I traditionally watch the Harry Potter movies so now I expanded to the game. So far it might be my game of the year since I didn’t try Baldur’s gate 3 yet, I’ll pick that one up on a sale later on. I’m taking my time and explore every nook and cranny in the game. I was hyped for Diablo 4 as a long time devotee but in it’s current form it’s simply not fun and needs quire a rework for me to pick it up sadly. The atmosphere, visuals, music, even combat is spot on but it lost way too much on other fronts. Starfield is another game which I put on hold as I simply didn’t continue the game at some point, will probably resume it after a few more patches.

Right off the top of my head I can think of two:

• best chance sites are working as intended, including DRM compatibility
• probably best integration with streaming solutions and integration with other apps

Seeing a lot of Manjaro here, what’s the deal? I installed it just yesterday on a test machine to check it out as I plan on steering over from windows long-term so just browsing what’s out there. Don’t really have issues and it ticks the boxes of a more user-friendly installation and comes out of the box with Plasma. I may try out pure Arch or the GUI fork just not to have the hassle of setting up the DE

I blame people’s shorter attention spans for it, to a degree I’m also guilty of it. Can’t read a book nowadays before my focus shifts somewhere else.

Just to add a perspective from the other side of the fence, I have a gaming laptop running Windows 11 (yes I know) where this (or a very similar) issue has been plaguing Ryzen users for at least a year and a half. The issue is that TPM per se is not causing issues if turned on, but if BitLocker encryption is on it will cause occasional audio stutters and intermittent complete system halts. The only thing that reliably helps is completely turning off Bitlocker, the TPM chip can stay on and is of course needed for W11. OEMs and AMD have been digging their heads in the sand like ostritches and they have released the odd fix that does nothing to fix the underlying issue. I can’t see MS doing anything to reverse course on requirements and am getting a bit fed up with their BS lately, browsing what distro might suit me best and might pull the trigger and finally switch…

I dont know man, I installed Liftoff as I want a consistent UI throughout iOS and Android and so far it’s great. Roll with whatever works for you 🤷‍♂️

Chiming in, is there a solid OneDrive client for linux that just works? No collaboration stuff needed for it or other fluff, just simple file sync. I pay for OneDrive family and would be nice to be able to sync files with other ecosystems (Synology, Windows, Android).
