  • I don’t think it has that big of an impact. But most open source developers forget that it might end up being used by more people than just them .

Mastodon. Lemmy, do a web search especially for Lemmy on reddit and you are more likely than not to end up on threads about the singer . and don’t get me started on the many unpronounceable names of open source projects.

You are telling me this has been going on for almost a decade now, and no one ever noticed ?

So we trust open source apps under the premise that if malicious code gets added to the code, at least one person will notice ? Here it shows that years pass before anyone notices and millions of people’s communications could have been compromised by the world’s most trusted messaging app.

I don’t know which app to trust after this, if any?

I know I shouldn’t dunk on free software. But I have never been frustrated by a software before like I was with blender. Everything seems half developed. And I always need hacks I never knew I needed to complete the smallest of projects. Modeling tools are half finished.

Like try to snap the knife tool to the midpoint of an edge? no luck. Try to constrain the knife direction to one of the vertex directions ? No luck. Try to make the curve profile width consistent in 3d? no luck . do proper precision modeling ? Impossible . snapping in unreliable half of the time. and on and on and on .

I am very grateful for the free software and the devs hard work. I bet trying to make blender do many things at once keeps it in a state with many unfinished tools .
