Always glad to see some people can burn their money like this
Phones are never good for environment, it’s a resource sink. But it’s better than most others and it’s enough :-)
A lot of phones are disposed of despite being perfectly functional (at least some are saved by the second hand market) just because the manufacturer released a new version with a slightly better camera sensor and more RAM. It has gotten a bit ridiculous. Fairphones are not perfect, but being able to keep them more than 2-3 years without being left with an unmaintained glued brick is what makes at least a small difference.
The whole philosophy of Fairphone is keeping it as long as possible through long term maintenance and access to spare part for self repairs. Fairphones are “outdated” almost at launch in terms of hardware in comparison to most phones on the market because this is not what we (fairphone customers) are looking for.
Gave up my windows boot and only use Linux since recently. I kept using Windows for gaming (although it means I used it 99% of the time as a result). But retried linux gaming with Proton and everything runs smoothly enough for me. From big games like SF6 to native games like POE, it’s such a pleasure to see that everything “just works” most of the time. I kept my W10 dual boot in case some specific game just cannot be handled by Linux.
With the switch to Lemmy and now a full switch to Linux, I’m glad I threw away all these adwares :-)
And by its very nature, the fairphone cost is amortized over the long time you won’t need to replace it with a brand new phone :-) (although you need to take into account the possibility of replacing an expensive part, which are not cheap indeed but still way cheaper than a new phone anyway)
An OS as a service that you would connect to from… what ? Do they intend to sell computers that can do nothing else than running an RDP session ?
Agreed. To me, Lemmy (or the fediverse for that matter) succeeded because it offered me an alternative to reddit. It doesn’t need to become the #1 to be worth something.
I guess AAA companies are too afraid to even attempt replicating the Skyrim formula in depth. Hence why the Skyrim hype in the 2010’s led to (or at least was one of the reasons of) the boom of open world games. They thought stuffing a open world, random fetch quests and anything resembling an RPG level up and skill system was enough to create something like an Elder Scrolls game. Where Skyrim shines is in the little things, the details, the fact that you can move or pick a fork in a house or put a bucket on someone head and be able to steal anything in front of them, the lore and npcs, the OST. But something of this size takes time (I mean the development time for elder scrolls games is even a meme at this point), and unless you are confident in what you can create with this style, spending 5 years or more on one game that isn’t guarranted to be successful and profitable is a no-go for any decision maker in a AAA company, which are pretty much the only one that could finance a game like Skyrim.
Looks neat, we’ll see where it goes. Character design looks a bit poor though, especially the sorcerer/lich thing (design and animation looks like a random MMORPG)
It was fun doing transports mission in ED with the big transporter ships. It was pretty barebone and got bored rather quickly though. Hopefully a game where it’s the sole purpose should have more features and interesting things to do
I think you just only followed communities where Nintendo weren’t popular. I mean, there is a sub for every major Nintendo game, and one for Nintendo themselves.
A space exploration game with a “scan everything” mechanic, what a surprise… Really sick of this feature that replaces actual game design
I never really understood the concept of ChromeOS. Is there really such a use case of a computer entirely dedicated to running Chrome ?
