Very remote: burn wood or some sort of wood pellet stuff. Not clean, but it is local and renewable. Less remote: heat pumps, runs on electricity. Cities: many are planning/extending heat nets, those can be partially powered by left over heat from industry. And import nuclear electricity from France in winter I guess!

The answer is soaking.

Works quite well. Libreoffice, okular, signal desktop… I’ve used worse computers in recent years, steamdeck desktop experience is better than many 4 to 5 year old cheap laptops with win10 or win11.

freebee@sh.itjust.worksto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Here's what's happening to ad blockers in Google Chrome (and other browsers)13·11 months agoIf you properly use firefox personalised the way you want it, it gives you shitty unusable websites in Europe too. Banking says no, newspapers being buggy to unreadable with certain script blocking or cookie refusal, disable adblock to continue windows etc, it all exists here too. I always try ff. If really needed I open the shitty site in edge and afterwards return to ff… Also public (tax payer funded!) flemish radio and tv for example is completely unusable in ff with proper settings, works “perfect” in edge or chrome. German and Dutch public TV and radio works fine in ff tho.

Keeps testing fun and varied while lots of testdata and that it’s all nonsense doesn’t matter.
I’ve found that testing code or formulas with LLM is a 50/50 now. Very often replying “use function blabla() and such snd so” very detailed instructions while this suggested function just doesn’t exist at all in certain language asked for… it’s still something I’ld try if I’m very stuck tho, never know.

It’s december-february, if there’s the certainty of low solar production (during hours when it’s needed least) and the possibility of low wind combined with a lengthy period of strong cold weather. That’s when the fossil is needed…
freebee@sh.itjust.worksto Green - An environmentalist community @lemmy.ml•Germany Has Too Many Solar Panels, and It's Pushed Energy Prices Negative2·1 year agoPractically free solar power on the grid does not make the chargers and the infrastructure needed for them free. Tho yeah you’re probably overpaying for it on days with high renewable power generation.
freebee@sh.itjust.worksto Green - An environmentalist community @lemmy.ml•Germany Has Too Many Solar Panels, and It's Pushed Energy Prices Negative1·1 year agoThe infrastructure one shouldn’t be static either. I’m not fast charging an electric car to ride my non-electric bicycle, I’m not the reason the grid needs expensive upgrades so much…
It’s being metered too now. In Belgium it’s calculated on your max peak usage per month, averaged out over 12 months. You fastcharge 2 cars at once while running a washing machine, electric heater, vacuum, a bitcoinmine etc all at once: your infrastructure part of the bill rises. The only stupidness is that they put the “fictional minimum capacity used” too high, so you don’t benefit from practically 0 capacity usage.

Tuna on pizza is so dry. They don’t belong together.
are you going to rob them while they’re away?
i dunno, especially the music is really vast availability of full albums etc. Youtube + ublock is kinda my go to music. Used to search and store gigabytes, but it’s just not the same, not as easy. If youtube dies (ergo: it succeeds in blocking adblocking and third party such as newpipe), i’ll have a hard time finding alternatives tbh, that are just as user friendly.
freebee@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.ml•YouTube puts third-party clients on notice: Show ads or get blocked3·1 year agoI have the impression ad block literacy has declined a lot. 10-15 years ago I’ld be surprised if someone of friends, peers, same age group people didn’t have ad blocking. Now… I’m often surprised if they do, because it became less common to “put in the effort” of using ff with ublock.
2020 is from the seventies and only 1 season. 2021 is from 2000s and ran 5 seasons.
