Sounds like you are a couple steps ahead of where I’m trying to be. I don’t need many amenities or anything, just some peace and fucking quiet. Outdoor space for a garden would be a dream come true.

eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats getting on your nerves at the moment?English11·6 days agoThe constant barrage of unfortunate events.
Went through a breakup while unemployed and was facing homelessness since my cost of living practically doubled instantly. The cats were hers and I miss them every day.
Got a new job and my car broke down and died on the first day of work.
Trying to move to somewhere affordable but I definitely need a car for where I’m looking to go. Found a car but it’s 5-6 months wait time for the factory order, so I continue to pay insane rent by myself in the meantime, and look for a used car to maintain my good standing with the insurance company.
Got a brand new bed a few weeks ago. Yesterday noticed ants climbing all over the wall right next to it. Luckily they weren’t in the bed but I had to move it to an inconvenient spot for peace of mind, and worry about more ants coming back. There’s no food or anything even close to the bedroom.
Every time someone moves out of this apartment building the new people who move in have multiple dogs. There are more dogs than people living here. They’re constantly barking and howling and setting each other off and nobody does anything about it. I can’t escape the noise anywhere in my unit.
I just want to get out and start the rest of my life in a new place already.
Consider getting a line of credit to increase your buying power and in case you have repair costs in the future.
Absolutely get a set of winter tires, not just for safety in Canadian winters, but also because it should lower the cost of insurance. Do not skip the winter tires.
Bake your own bread. It costs less, tastes better, and there are no plastic bags involved except for re-using ones you already have.

eezeebee@lemmy.cato Gaming@beehaw.org•Adult gamers of Lemmy how do you find time to game without being exhausted of the screen?English3·20 days agoI nap almost every day.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to rebalance, imbalanced effort in a heterosexual relationship?English1·24 days agoI thought about your reply and how my comment comes off, and I agree, they should try fixing things and counseling. Giving up should be the last resort. My bias is showing. My stance is directed at knowing when to get out of an abusive/controlling/one-sided relationship, but I don’t know these people or have enough info to determine if that is really their situation.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Gaming@beehaw.org•Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of April 6thEnglish4·25 days agoDark Souls 2, again. I’m helping a new player and the really bad co-op mechanics might be enough to push me to try out some mods like seamless co-op and the lighting engine which looks gorgeous.
Dome Keeper. I didn’t realize it was made in Godot which is neat and encouraging to see. I really like the gameplay loop and graphics and look forward to unlocking more things to shake it up.
New Super Lucky’s Tale. The burrow mechanic was pretty fun. While the game wasn’t very challenging it was still a good playthrough and visually strong. The best part was the bonus world at the end where you really get to let the abilities rip, especially in combat. I wish there were more enemies around in the rest of the game because the way you can chain together attacks and create a “flow” was fun and seriously under-utilized.

eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What band/stars are meh when listening to on your phone, but sweep you off your feet when they perform live?English1·28 days agoImmolation. Their sound on recordings is fine, but their live sound was unexpectedly amazing.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do some guys start humming/making noise around women to not frighten them?English38·1 month agoI’ll clear my throat, jingle my keys, make louder footsteps to make my presence known, especially at night or when turning a corner. It’s not just for women, but for any person or animal to not be startled.
I think it’s a combination of courtesy, habit from having worked in a restaurant kitchen, and camping in bear country.
3D platformers, my beloved.
Thanks for sharing and giving some things to look forward to.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some cheap, easy, and healthy meals to make at home?English3·1 month agoNope. If they are given about 3 hours to cook, I find they are softened enough (use higher heat if the duration will be shorter). That’s not to say you can’t pre-fry them or something if you want to!
I should have mentioned that I usually make my chili vegetarian. In the rare occasions where I do add meat, I will pre-cook that, but it’s mostly because of paranoia and because I don’t own a cooking thermometer.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some cheap, easy, and healthy meals to make at home?English3·1 month agoUsually red kidney beans (canned), and/or dried lentils in a bag. No prep necessary (besides cutting up veggies) as long as you know there will be enough time for the dried lentils or other ingredients to soften in the slow cooker. I like to leave it on low heat all day or all night to be sure. You could boil/pre-cook them if you needed it to be ready in only a few hours, though.
eezeebee@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some cheap, easy, and healthy meals to make at home?English6·1 month agoI’m a big fan of slow-cooker chili. It’s easy to make different variations by throwing in whatever leftover ingredients you have, and stuff that would otherwise be going bad soon. Like the last bit of pasta sauce, random veggies. Always have some beans or lentils on hand to fill it out. It’s easy to make lunches for a week in one go.
Stir fry. Similar to above. Use the last of the broccoli, onion, carrots, even peanut or almond crumbs that would otherwise go to waste.
Feta. Sure, pizza tends to be already covered in cheese, but this is different cheese, and that is a good thing. I think it goes well with some of my other faves, such as green olives, pineapple, banana peppers.
Salami. It’s like pepperoni, but different.
Alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce, together with a few toppings like chicken and red onion, is heavenly, and doesn’t seem to cause heartburn.
A couple projects at the moment.
A 3D platformer/adventure, my “dream game”, which I realized the scope exceeds my capabilities for now until I learn more. I’m taking some inspiration from games I’ve been playing like Cavern of Dreams and Pseudoregalia and will be simplifying it eventually to be closer to those. Here’s a little demo video of the character hopping around a level and solving a puzzle
A 3D rogue-lite made from the bones of the project above. There is a drought threatening the faeries, so you have to go collect dew drops from dusk til dawn before they evaporate. It’s basically kicking balls in a 3D space and plays kind of like a janky Rocket League. Sort of fun, at least!
A 3D platformer/FPS, sort of like Half-Life. This is my latest and is meant to help me solidify an understanding of game systems and how to keep it lean and simple. The shooting is janky though and I’m not sure I care to make proper enemies so it might get simplified further to just be little puzzles.
