Open Source@lemmy.ml•installing LineageOS is easy, actuallyEnglish
1·5 days agoidk thats fallacious assumption of knowledge and generalizing i feel uneasy to let go unchecked.
most people talk to are intimidated and confused about mobile operating systems. by your assuredness i assume you use Linux and are cynically pragmatic about “non-tech savvy users who are fucked anyway” /my bias speaking
imho a video of a phone teardown to physically remove front camera & microphones & what else the person don’t feel a want or need for together with the overview that shows the beginning-to-end of the brief process assures people they can take the plunge into governing their own digital tools.
you’re not the state, just a person online, so not aimed at you, but i find others deserving of positive encouragement. leaving the door open and lights on to people wondering if GrapheneOS & a Pixelphone is the silverbullet or if stock android is as good as LineageOS (edit: yes, even on the phone held in their hand right now, or found about to be sold for 20$.)

11·5 days agopeople keep bringing up buying a new phone for thousands of non-dollar currencies. . .
consider this: pick a trashed phone out of the literal trash and 2nd hands around high-income households, look at ‘teardown’ videos like me, use a screwdriver to unscrew fromtcamera & whichever other component (Bluetooth, GSM, GPS, gyroscope, …) & install LineageOS.

cool that you are of a mind to contribute to the projects you rely on.
i am personally curious now: are you using another email provider for chatting with other’s regular email addresses? i imagine the deltachat programs are optimized for use with chatmail addresses exclusively- and other email providers either playing nice with open standards or not. for example i hear there is a hassle tuning things to fit proprietary email providers.

lmao i added to the word of mouth here, that was the point.
ofcourse HP sells more. they’re a market monopoly that polemically and aggressively remove common knowledge of competitors when able to.

this reminds me of many instances of undesireable policymaking where algorithms just connected state personell with agendas of politicians through the black box of social media… like a judge who got the thoughts of a politician on certain rulings which is illegal in nordic countries. like the message of “hey what if climate activists are obstructing capital ventures in law? can a judge try that?” is illegal for a politician to ask of a judge here, yet through social media it happened. she didn’t see that politician’s exact words but was bombarded by posts and probably ads that shaped the way she thought about her job as a juridical arbiter of lives. left uncorrelated in mainstream
like modos, the open source e-ink kit with as fast refresh rates as LCD screens? on crowdsource right now
and as “open printer”? open source printer with refillable ink cartridges, no tracking shenanigans, a repairable design and possibility to just put a roll of paper (at most A3 in width) then letting it print bannerolls… crowdsource too iirc
so osmosis? kinda like the consensus people form from being on the internetverse - not knowing just where they picked a fact or perspective up from, but touting it as an obvious fact or perspective that everyone has

i don’t share the assumption that LineageOS doesn’t run on any phone, welp
last i checked it runs on phones from every brand ever
