The proper response to being offered something to read, indeed.

ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•are you permanently banned off reddit? or do you just like lemmy more?3·29 days agoI never really used Reddit, but I read an article during the API debacle in 2023 that mentioned Lemmy so I gave it a shot.
There are workgroups at my job that use it as acknowledgement and for voting consensus as we are allowed to attend meetings camera and mic off.
That was kind of the critical issue going on. There was this whole movement to get some kind of course change on Israel. Biden made it clear there was a higher chance of Trump changing course on Israel. Kamala insisted she would not change course from Biden.
It really didn’t work out for their campaign.
There are whole portions of red states that currently lack OBGYNs. And the police are patrolling the roads for pregnant people that might appear to be leaving the state to see an OBGYN.
It’s been that way since 2022 though.

It always felt slightly offputting.
…And then the groom’s mom made a speech about how love was like a dog, which had some sweet sentiments about loyalty in there. But also… vaguely shady.
I prefer me the multiplayer environment of Fromsoft games where it’s just absolute degeneracy and your own damn pride on the line. Where the sweat and the stupid blurs.

Approaching nation states from this perspective is effectively racist, inherently so.
This is compared to civic nationalism where commitment to national values matters. So one could argue that without clarification it is a stretch, but at the same time… it’s usually pretty clear which version is meant.

Exactly. These are the hoops organized labor has to jump through to get even a footing.
Meanwhile compare what the billionaire class is able to use for their signaling.
ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.worksto Antiwork@lemmy.ml•INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC BLACKOUT DAY!28th Feb 2025 ✊8·2 months agoThis came up in another thread and I am surprised it is not as well known: General strikes are illegal in the United States since 1947’s Taft-Hartley Act.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taft–Hartley_Act
Attempts to organize and exert political and economic influence have to do so under the parameters of that act. Unions can’t support these things openly or officially without violating the act. So these things have to be called something other than a general strike to avoid persecution. They’re essentislly stripped of major legitimizing and organizing organ: labor unions, by default.
The normalization and defenses of it, the crying maga soyjack, has been coming from the the major media networks from what I have seen.
MAGA is stroking it.

Though that’s more of a lemmy specific perspective.

Thoughts on political diversity in the Fediverse.7·4 months agoMy instance has conservative and anti-leftist communities. They’re more the personal playgrounds of a few people with humiliation and persecution fetishes though.
Castro’s reign was pretty marked with attempted coups, assassinations, and outright invasion. You know, the standard cold war experience.
The whole ‘make life as hard as possible so the people have no choice but overthrow their government’ strategy hasn’t really been effective. Ever.
Middle top takes your medicine for themselves.

ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do American ballots have more than two choices, when the news media has spent their time pretending there are only two?2·6 months agoTop-two mixed primary regardless of partisan affiliation.
One primary ballot held, all candidates declare a party ‘preference’, all votes counted together. Top two go onto the general election.
The American Libertarian sects tend to loosely regard themselves as anarchist, which is frustrating as all hell.
Anarcho-capitalism is opportunistic enough to co-opt anything.
