  • Yeah I agree. I’d love to get rid of maps, but location history is just way too valuable to give up, and I couldn’t find anybody else who does it.

I also really like navigation that’s responsive to current traffic levels. Obviously even if someone else provided that, them having fewer users would mean it’s not going to be very effective, but I’d be willing to switch to someone else who at least was attempting to do that, even if their userbase wasn’t there yet.

Right now though…nobody that I could find even tries to do either of those crucial features.

  • German law literally restricts bike light brightness to a point of being impractical in the dark. It bans blinking lights despite research showing blinking lights increase visibility of cyclists. It requires cut-offs that make it so you literally can’t see what’s ahead of you until it’s too late to react to it, if you’re riding at speed.

If you’re only ever riding at a slow 20 km/h on relatively well-lit city streets, it might be fine. But that’s just not reality.

You’re required to have a rear light, but it must be mounted between 25 and 60 cm above the ground…so you can forget about a light mounted on your helmet or backpack…or even at the most natural place for a light…at the top of your seatpost. It’s fucking nonsensical. And to learn that despite all this bullshit making cyclists less safe, car lights are unrestricted? Oh boy, am I incensed right now.

Some even have sinks in each stall so you can go from wiping your ass straight to washing your hands

See, I emphatically do not want that.

If I could rely on everyone else washing their hands properly it would be great. But I don’t want to have to touch the stall door that has Aleppo been touched by people who haven’t washed their hands after I’ve washed mine. I want the hand washing to be the very last thing I do before exiting, preferably via a push door that I can push with my foot or in a spot that fewer other people would push it.

Why would someone on a help desk be expected to know what POST is? A software engineer, sure, but helpdesk? If it’s needed knowledge…that’s what training is for. Businesses’ expectation that people will come into the job already knowing exactly how you do things and never require on-the-job training is absurd.

  • In addition to what Blaze said, there’s a much more public desire to leave Instagram because of how publicly awful Facebook and Zuckerberg are. Spez is not really any better, but outside of our bubble people don’t really see that as much—party because he has so much less money to push his ideas outside of Reddit.

And it’s just fortuitous that unlike Twitter, Instagram doesn’t have any real competition that isn’t using Activity Pub.

  • In Sync, when you see your comment, does it create a link you can click to go to murd0x’s profile? If so, nice! Sync is doing the right thing in this context. I know already that Jerboa, the app from the main Lemmy devs, does this correctly.

But lemmy-ui, the interface you’ll see on most instances if you open it up in your web browser, that is not clickable, but the /u/username is clickable. It’s an obvious bug/shortcoming in lemmy-ui.

  • I had not. I had no idea that even existed, thanks!

Do they have a Lemmy community for feedback? It’s super buggy right now unfortunately, with “a” taking me to the post on the poster’s instance, instead of upvoting (or at least taking me to the post on my instance…), and with all keyboard shortcuts handling alternative keyboard layouts in what I would consider to be the wrong way (though this is possibly debatable/up to preference).
