I find that to be a good thing. The less centralized institutions that can control what we do the better. I say that while social media is the biggest it’s ever been.

They’re making the same argument people make about music. There’s plenty of good music out there of all genres. Radio just doesn’t play it and you have to go out of your way to find what you like.

Same with dude. I was in high school over a decade ago but back then I remember dude and guys being gender neutral, both guys and girls used it that way. Funnily enough this same conversation was happening back then too among my peers, and we all agreed it was already gender neutral at the time.

They’re sold at VERY reasonable prices and because it’s Japan and people take care of their shit they’re in very good conditions a lot of the time. You’ll want to buy a lot of your childhood stuff, I know I did. I had to buy an extra checked luggage just for all the stuff I brought back and I only traveled with my carry on because I wasn’t expecting to buy anything except for a game cube which I could fit. Turns out I was wrong.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What item do you own that has an unexpectedly high value?1·1 year agoVisited Japan last year and picked up all the originals in Japanese. Red, blue, green, yellow, crystal, gold and silver. Solid condition and working for a decent price at an out of the way recommended shop. I would like to pick up the boxes but they would probably be more expensive because of the rarity. I’ll probably end up buying some aftermarket on Etsy just to display them.
I literally had to bring all my group kicking and screaming onto discord literally within the year it launched. Same story, non stop bitching about Skype but all of a sudden nobody wanted to try discord. I straight up had to send a message to all of them saying I’m uninstalling and dropping my discord link if they wanted to play. Over the course of a month they all switched over, couldn’t be happier.
Well shit. I wasn’t expecting that last line.
Depending on the state it could be hard, California makes it all public.
Cringe, you’re not even a good anarchist.
Except he didn’t invent the words used to name what he invented. If he had just named it gif and pronounced it jif and non of those letters stood for anything I would see your point, but he didn’t. He named it graphic interchange format, shortened to gif. That said, who gives a shit pronounce it how you want. Language evolves anyways.
At some point the taxes would be so high that nobody could afford to rent and the owners would lose money forcing them to sell. Which is fine. Just gotta make the taxes higher for more than x houses.
People who own second and third homes aren’t even the issue. It’s mega corps that literally own tens of thousands of homes each. A better way to go about it is to just progressively tax people more per home. That second home gets taxed at the same rate but any home after is taxed way way way more. If someone can still afford it then that’s fine, just more tax money coming in. That and don’t let corps own rental properties.

I look at it for free if they bring it over but I charge 25 with a 3 hour minimum if there’s any work. Most people say no thanks, I helped an older lady replace her hard drive and didn’t actually charge her even though she wanted to pay since it really was just 5 minutes to order a new one and 10 to change it out once it got here. She gave me some homemade cookies so it was a good deal for me.

That’s why early on they established that everyone was infected and there’s pretty much no way to cure it currently. Season 1 or 2 iirc.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the piece of media so emotionally overwhelming you just stopped it?1·1 year agoSpoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
I watched it with my girlfriend and the part about the bones in the tin candy container at the start of the movie flew over her head. She was hopeful that the girl might survive, I realized she missed the bones because she got a smidge hopeful when they went to see the doctor.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the piece of media so emotionally overwhelming you just stopped it?4·1 year agoThe show is about interpersonal drama more than it is about zombies and that’s not me being reductive. The creator himself has said as much. It’s a drama set in a post apocalyptic zombie world, not a zombie drama set in a post apocalyptic world.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the piece of media so emotionally overwhelming you just stopped it?4·1 year agoI also stopped there. I may be misremembering because of trauma but when he said ‘Maggie I’ll find you’ it destroyed me. In his last moments all he could think about was his wife, I felt that on a deep personal level.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What small piece of advice you would like to give that isn't heard enough ?3·1 year agoA good exercise is to read your essay from the bottom up. Start at the last complete sentence and when you’re done read the one above. You’ll catch more things that way because your mind has to change the perspective.
Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What small piece of advice you would like to give that isn't heard enough ?12·1 year agoDepends on who it is. I’ll spend 10 hours on a pc issue for my mom but if it’s a cousin and it takes more than 10 minutes I’ll either say it’s outside of my knowledge or straight up say I would have to charge because of time commitment.
This might be a shit complaint on my part because these games are specifically for those type of people but I’m playing ff14 atm and they fuggin make me go across the world to talk to someone through a cut scene then make me go across the world again to rinse and repeat and that’s the game. I understand repetition is to be expected in mmo questing, I played wow for 17 years but at least for wow there’s some actual world exploration to be done to some degree and it isn’t usually forcing you to cross the world constantly. Ff14 doesn’t even have proper world exploration, they have teleport stones everywhere so you don’t truly get to see what’s up beyond following the quest lines. Glam, posing and rp saves that game.
