If they existed it would be The Boys style super"heros". So I don’t know, I’d kinda prefer they didn’t know how to catch a punch.

Which is why you have a judiciary and constitution outlining protections.
So maybe we should switch to systems that represent everyone equally, with equal and fair democratic representation, so that when evil inevitably arises it can be squashed.
If your state concept is broad enough to entail any organization of a certain size, be my gast in a council republic
It’s somewhere along the lines of “any organization that handles the administrative work and protection for a given territory”.
And I don’t think that’s all that broad of a definition, and it includes your world wide net of councils as a state.
Importantly, you didn’t answer the second question:
What would prevent centralization of power?
That’s state welfare/insurance, not socialism.
Shit that’s all you had to say
Unfortunately I quite prefer my mind being the only one I can hear.
How is that different from a state, aside from the decentralization of power?
What would prevent centralization of power?
Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto Memes@lemmy.ml•Communism in theory vs in practiceEnglish10·2 months agoYeah kinda hard to do so when a world power decides to end your country.
How would society handle critical functions such as water sanitation for millions of people without a state to enforce equitable share of the cost?
Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto Memes@lemmy.ml•Communism in theory vs in practiceEnglish34·2 months agoYou made a lot of claims here. Do you have any sources to provide support?
Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto Memes@lemmy.ml•Communism in theory vs in practiceEnglish10·2 months agoCompetition does the exact opposite of centralization. That’s why I can buy most goods from completely different vendors that differ in price and quality.
Competitions have winners, and in this case it means the competition goes out of business and dies, leaving you with a near monopoly or outright monopoly.
That power then gets used to
- lobby (bribe) the government to raise barriers to entry to prevent new competitors
- buy out new competitors
- intentionally price everything lower than competitors, at a loss, to kill competitors in a war of attrition that they can’t possibly outlast
And that’s even assuming there’s any competition at all, which often isn’t the case with certain things like healthcare, internet, electricity, etc.

That’s the problem here though, that effect is lessening. So they’re gonna stay up their longer, potentially past the limits of what they can do to avoid collisions. That’s going to create problems for lower orbits.
Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto Technology@beehaw.org•Earth’s atmosphere is shrinking and thinning, which is bad news for Starlink and other LEO SatsEnglish5·2 months agoNot exactly. If it goes into full blown Kessler syndrome, it will become everyone’s problem, including at the newly “freed up” lower orbits.
I think we need more than vandalism. But it couldn’t hurt. Where’s Mario?

Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto OpenSourceGames@lemmy.ml•For which game would you most like to see a FOSS alternative?English2·3 months agoThanks I hate it. Can’t wait for KSP 3 to be any even more of a disaster.
Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.netto OpenSourceGames@lemmy.ml•For which game would you most like to see a FOSS alternative?English6·3 months agoAgreed.
- KSP like exploration
- No wiggly rockets
- Better scaling
- Performant
That’s all it really needs to be. And that’s a giant oversimplification, and still a massive ask. But if an open source game had those 4 things, it would put KSP2 an additional 6 feet under, putting it at 18.
I’ve had my eye on Juno New Horizons. They’d probably not go open source, but they look like they know what they’re doing. I might be giving that one a try at some point.
The only “open world” game that’s been a linear story survival sandbox that I’ve seen do it well is Raft. And that only works because of the medium of it being an open sea where the players can wander, then move through the story at their leisure.
