Drewsteau@lemmy.worldto Mastodon@lemmy.ml•Reddit exodus - Using Lemmy from my existing MastodonEnglish5·2 years agoThis is very cool that you can interact between these two sites. I’m going to stick with my Lemmy account for now since this seems like it’s much easier to do on the web browser version of Mastodon and not so much on the apps!
As another user said I also don’t like that individual comments show up as boosts, and on one of the three mastodon apps I’ve been trying (lol) it doesn’t show what the comment is replying to
Were you at haunted house last night?

Drewsteau@lemmy.worldto Science@lemmy.ml•Scientists make common pain killers from pine trees instead of crude oilEnglish8·2 years agoThis is super cool! And they were able to make another major chemical precursor too. I see the yield for ibuprofen is only 64% but I have to assume that’s there room to optimize that reaction scheme to generate higher yields!
I would love to see the full synthesis process as well as reaction conditions, but like everyone else who leaves academia I lost access to journals after finishing my grad program.

I’m so rich, I can use real coffee grounds instead of instant!
Drewsteau@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What animal or insect going extinct would have the greatest impact on the ecosystem?English3·2 years agoBees and coral are both great answers, but I’m going to go with spiders. The amount of smaller pest insects that spiders consume is definitely overlooked and without them just imagine the swarms of bugs that would aggregate during the summer months
