No one says you need to have 2 computers, a second external drive is fine.

Well realistically anything well supported is gonna be a “bit old”. Your best bet is either a OnePlus 6/6T, Pocophone F1 or a PinePhone/Librem 5. Fairphones are getting up there in support.
