This is annoying but I am not surprised with the enshitification of everything nice going on in the world.
Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•[SOLVED] Suspend doesn't work on my Fedora Workstation 413·4 months agoI had an issue recently where my new PC build would not shut down. It would power itself back on on every shutdown immediately.
Checked the bios and found that I had Wake on PCIe (something like that) enabled. Soon as I disabled it, I was able to shut down my PC.
My assumption is that I was shutting down my PC and my monitor still being on was causing my Asus mobo to see it as a turn on event.
Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Automated installation of multiple applications after a fresh OS install? (Fedora)1·7 months agoCorrect. I’m running two AD DC’s based on Samba, all running on Zentyal. Super simple to install & setup. I them run a VM in Virtualbox on my laptop for the rare occasions I need to use the Windows RSAT tools.
Other than that, all my Linux VM’s, ProxMox hosts & unRAID NAS all set to auth against the Samba DC. It has been working perfectly for over a year now.

Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Automated installation of multiple applications after a fresh OS install? (Fedora)1·7 months agoI use an Ansible playbook to do fresh install stuff such as app installs & joining my local Samba AD.
Another option, that I’ve never tried, would be to put your /home directory on another partition. That only solves the settings though and not your app installation bit.
No time like the present to fix that void in your life.

It makes a significant difference, especially if you can sit a fan where the cold air from the AC falls to the ground.
Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it worth buying the Mac keyboard for a dedicated Linux PC instead of the windows one?2·1 year agoAbsolutely. I have used this model specifically since at least 2006 or so. I have been using this model so long I have to readjust back to the non ergo layout every time I just type in my laptop when it is undocked. Not looking forward to the day this keyboard dies on me.
Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it worth buying the Mac keyboard for a dedicated Linux PC instead of the windows one?8·1 year agoKeyboard is keyboard as far as I am concerned. I’m using an old Microsoft Ergo 4000 V1 that I got probably 10 years ago. I have used this same keyboard on a Windows 10/11 install, multiple bare metal Linux installs and a MacBook Pro.
The only issue is the Command key as I recall on the MacBook but that can be remapped if I remember correctly.
If you have access to docker and want to play around, spin up a Kasm container (or VM) and have as many single use instances for the browser of your choice. I personally have a Chrome and Firefox workspace that I use for testing web apps we use at work.
We are in the middle of rolling out a new SaaS solution at work that just works better in Edge. The amount of outrageous levels of anger and disgust we get from telling them to use Edge is stupid. Even telling users it is built on Chromium, just like Chrome, does nothing to dissuade their unfounded anger.
With some people it actually comes down to telling them, “if you don’t use Edge, then I guess you need to start looking for another job that only uses Chrome”.
I just don’t get it.

For about a year, I used a husband pillow behind my pillow so I would sleep upright. Eventually, I figured out what works best for my body which is basically just make sure I don’t eat at least 2 hours before bed.
Other than that, the fundoplication takes care of preventing stomach contents from coming back. Here’s a quick video!
Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever had an illness that most people don't understand?2·2 years agoNever hurts to get checked. See about having an enscopy performed and they can check it out. Another procedure is called a Esophageal Manometry. They put a thin tube up your nose and down your throat and make you swallow fluids to measure how well your esophagus squeezes or in my case, they said it spasmed and basically doesn’t respond as it hood.
I wish you the best.

Concave1142@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever had an illness that most people don't understand?12·2 years agoFirst Dr visit was sometime in 2018 with surgery in Q2 2019’ish. I would have been 37’ish when symptoms first started coming on.
From what I’ve read, only 1 in 200,000 have it so it took multiple Dr’s to finally find one who said to me, “I was just at a convention last month and heard a talk about a condition like yours and just happens one of the top Dr’s on achalasia lives here in our city.” Few months later and I was scheduled for surgery and it’s been worlds better post-surgery. :)
It definitely affects my life every day with what I can & cannot eat (bread is a nightmare) but I take it in stride and drinks copius amounts of water with every meal.
Doing the same on Ubuntu myself after trying Bazzite for a couple weeks. Bazzite kept messing up SSSD and would prevent me from authenticating with my home domain.
Will definitely try SteamOS once it is fully released.
