I also recommend The Finals! It’s exclusively multiplayer, and the only “grind” one needs to worry about is unlocking all the weapons and gadgets; it doesn’t take long to do, and you don’t even need all of them if you aren’t going to use them. But there’s nothing to level up or upgrade, so once you buy an item, it’s just a permanent part of your kit. There’s no story or campaign that you have to progress, no cutscenes to sit through. You just launch the game, pick a mode, and queue for a match.

I have like 750+ in-match hours logged, and have no plans on stopping.

Nintendo doesn’t explicitly state what it means by making your device “unusable.” However, there’s a strong chance this is merely Nintendo’s polite way of indicating that if a user breaches its user agreement policy, their Switch console could potentially be bricked (rendered inoperable) by Nintendo.

I like how the author’s speculation is used as the headline, as if it were confirmed fact. That’s super cool and useful and definitely not misleading at all.

Realistically, this sort of verbiage has existed on several consoles’ ToS in the past, and I’m pretty sure nothing has ever come of it before. Here’s the full term in question, which the author of this article couldn’t be bothered to include for the reader to easily scrutinize for themselves:

As it’s written, it seems that the actions Nintendo would take are flexible, and would depend on what, specifically, you hacked. And I say “hacked”, because this is referring specifically to unauthorized access of Nintendo’s online services. This isn’t even talking about hacking your actual console, itself.

There’s really nothing out of the ordinary here, and I’m almost positive that the same terms existed on previous Nintendo consoles, just in different words.

That’s interesting that they give you the full details like that. Most games will, at most, tell you “We took action against a player you reported”, or something equally vague.

Adjacent to video editing, do you have any interest in visual effects? Lots of really sophisticated CGI and other VFX in film can be done from consumer-grade GPUs like yours.

As an American, that idea makes me very uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the fact that we have as many nukes as we do, and I hope to never live to see them used. But many of our national alliances exist only because we have as many nukes as we do; either to protect the ally, or to ensure they stay an ally. When you remove the threat of a military retaliation, the US doesn’t really have a whole lot of true friends in this world. Should China or Russia fail to uphold their end of such a bargain, I doubt many would come to our aid if things went bad, and I’m just not built to live in a post-nuclear wasteland.

Okay, this “$1 trillion” metric is a bit of a reach, and seems to be based on an arbitrary value assigned to an estimated amount of data Google has collected, and not actually $1,000,000,000,000 in revenue. It does not appear that Google has actually made a trillion dollars from CAPTCHA data.

Pepe was previously coopted by far-right groups. The usage has died down since the creator of the original comic began suing people, but there are still people who put Pepe in Trump hats and shit.

I’m gonna be honest, Mastodon is kinda trash, on its own. It’s clunky, ugly, and feels like a platform from 2010 (but not in a good way). I think getting people onboard with a Misskey/Sharkey instance is going to be much better. The feature set is a lot closer to Twitter, and it does literally everything Mastodon does, but better.

In theory, this would be true. But in Mozilla’s case, “reinvesting into its employees” means giving the CEO a pay raise in the same year they did huge layoffs. They may be not-for-profit on paper, but the actions from their execs are exactly the same as you’d see from any other for-profit corp. Being not-for-profit is just an excuse for shitty business practices and doesn’t change anything in any significant way, imo.

I’ve been saying for years that Mozilla is a profit-driven corp, just like any other. If they operated at Google’s scale, they’d be evil at Google’s scale, as well. It’s not the first time they’ve done something like this, and likely won’t be the last.

Listening to audio would be the least effective and most expensive method of data collection for advertisers. It’s not happening. They already have literally over a million data points on you, there’s nothing useful for them to glean from your audio that they don’t already have ad nauseum.

You see thousands of ads and recommendations every day. You finally found one that was relevant to you. It’s not that deep.
