The mashable report is pretty much just a repost of the Verge article, which they cite.

Yes, that should be it. Firefox runs its own version of SafeBrowsing, but it falls back to Google if it sees something that is not in its database. Then it sends a hash to Google to check it.
Focus and Klar are basically the same, except for the telemetry. Iirc Klar was created because having telemetry would possibly run afoul of some German data privacy laws.
Klar would be the pick of the two. You could also use a different fork that you used like focus where you set it to only use private browsing and delete data/cookies etc on quit.
Klar has telemetry disabled by default, Focus has telemetry enabled by default.
About:config is disabled in both, so you cannot change anything that is not available in the settings.
It is an official version of Firefox, not a fork. It generally does not break things as it is basically Focus without telemetry.
It is not comparable to Mull (rip) or Ironfox
The Wikipedia app or Wikireader
Thank you. I read through the page then scrolled back up to the “join” part.
It seems interesting, but the only way to try it is with Google, the links lead to playstore and accounts.google . The page also has Google fonts, and googletagmanager
Looking at my firewall logs (RethinkDNS) Ironfox doesn’t seem to try to connect to anything I don’t want it to except safebrowsing. That’s blocked anyway by the firewall, and is easily disabled in about:config. You may want to use safebrowsing, and Firefox connects to their own implementation of it before it hits Googles servers.
Info on safebrowsing and Firefox is here

Actually a pretty decent review.
There is this though
When evaluating browsers, I weighted privacy and security HEAVILY.
(Bolding is theirs, not mine)
Then the review page contains googletagmanager, Facebook, and mediavine. Which are all ad/tracking services.
I don’t agree with what they said, but everyone has opinions.
I know this is about desktop, but do not use ungoogled chromium for Android, it hasn’t been updated in years.
I can’t think of any. As a work around you could use a Firefox fork and have it set to always open new tabs in private tabs.
I have Fennec set up that way.
Yes, that’s my understanding. So it’s more work to use than point and shoot, which would be a nice feature for someone like me who can recognize major constellations and planets, but not much else.
Planisphere is alright, it’s basic, but does the job. No nasties in it and works offline.
Tubular has sponsor block too.
Do you mean Heliboard? It supports gesture typing, but you need to import the library you want.
Duct tape of course
You can harvest the transformers for a couple junk microwaves to make an arc welder.
If you aren’t experienced then pretty much all power supplies, battery backups, and motors should be left to someone else.
I saw someone lose a finger (later reattached) to a washing machine with a jammed tub. It was plugged in and on when they reached underneath it and yanked the belt, their sleeve ducked their hand into the drive wheel.
That said, if it fits your personality it can be both fun and satisfying to learn how to fix stuff. I try to teach anyone who’s interested and asks. Except LG washing machines, those things can fuck right off.
