It’s only strange in the forced misreading of the meme you’re using

As op already clarified - the point isnt that tools have no influence over behavior, only that the behavior isn’t a deterministic one implied by those invoking Heidegger or Lorde

Influence being nondeterministic doesn’t make it less real. If a certain intervention has a 1% chance of producing a specific behavior, then across a large enough population you will see the behavior increase by exactly 1%.

Individual choice is real. But so are the impacts of cultural artifacts.

        Right

The question isnt then ‘how do we avoid being taken in by the artifact’s influence?’, but, ‘what does the inclusion of this artifact change about how we must address the systems we are looking to dismantle?’

Maybe I’ll just leave this exerpt from Lorde and ask whose misunderstanding you’re pointing to in this conversation about AI

Women of today are still being called upon to stretch across the gap of male ignorance and to educated men as to our existence and our needs. This is an old and primary tool of all oppressors to keep the oppressed occupied with the master’s concerns. Now we hear that it is the task of women of Color to educate white women—in the face of tremendous resistance—as to our existence, our differences, our relative roles in our joint survival. This is a diversion of energies and a tragic repetition of racist patriarchal thought.
