w3dd1e@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Impulse buys are bad, we all know, but what was an impulse buy that proven to be a really good decision to you?4·1 month agoI was really trying to rack my brain for this question but, you helped me.
Mine is a pet too. A dog. I have a Dalmatian and there was one up for adoption at a local shelter.
I went to meet him, and the shelter sort of pushed him into me right then. It was more expensive than it should have been also.
In the end, I’m glad I brought him home. My first dog loves to wrestle with him and the shelter ended up getting shut down for violations with the state. I’m so happy he got a good home with me and didn’t get sent to who knows where when the shelter closed.
Some of my favorites! Mostly Sci-fi, but there a bit of fantasy too! The starred items are my absolute favorites; listened to on repeat. Not the most obscure list, but I don’t care.
The Expanse series is my favorite, but I want to highlight Dungeon Crawler Carl and Redshirts. Sci-fi tends to be serious and depressing, but these books are funny. I genuinely laugh out loud at Dungeon Crawler Carl.
- Leviathan Wakes by James SA Corey*
- Red Rising by Pierce Brown*
- Old Man’s War by John Scalzi
- Redshirts by John Scalzi
- Hyperion by Dan Simmons
- Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie*
- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig*
- Wool by Hugh Howey
- Heretical Fishing by Haylock Jobson
- Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinnimon, narrated by Jeff Hays (listen to the audio book. It’s good in its own, but the narrator goes above and beyond anything else I’ve ever heard)*
You won’t regret it!
Futurama. I’ve seen it thousands of times. That’s not an exaggeration.
Thats a great point. I use the Steam Link app with an Xbox controller all the time.
I’ve been looking into that recently. I want to set up my own homelab server (or at least a NAS).
I will check it out! Thanks! I hadn’t heard of this before.
I got sick of all the ads on Google TV/ChromeCast and Fire TV. Not to mention the shitty layouts that get worse and worse every year.
I got an Apple TV box and it has been fantastic. I still see some Apple TV ads when turn it on? But they are much less annoying and contained to one play. Not mixed in with the app I’m trying to open.

I didn’t care about musicals or romance. My dad made me watch it. He was a tough guy who liked kung fu movies and football. But he wasn’t afraid to be soft either. He liked musicals as much as he liked Bruce Lee. Glad we watched it together though. I appreciate that stuff now.

I subscribe to over 250 podcasts. -_- I don’t listen to all of them every day, and many aren’t in production anymore.
I love to listen and learn.
Unexplainable - Explainers on scientific mysteries, each episode is less than 30 minutes
What Went Wrong - Behind the scenes movie podcast. It’s a miracle any movie gets made.
Song Exploder - Musicians take apart their songs, layer by layer and talk about how it was made
Hysteria - Politics and News focusing on how the issues affect women
Levar Burton Reads - Levar Burton reads short stories. Not in production anymore, but there are almost 200 episodes worth of stories to hear
Hello From the Magic Tavern - A guy falls to another dimension but still gets WiFi so he started a podcast interviewing fantasy characters in that universe
Welcome to Night Vale - A fictional story told through a bi-monthly community updates radio broadcast. All conspiracies in Night Vale are real.
Hacked - Stories about hacking and internet crime.
Ologies - Science show about ‘-ologies’ careers
88 was my favorite number for a long time until I found out that Nazis were using it. Bummer. I’m weirdly still sad about it.
I can’t even tell you why it was my favorite number. I think as a kid, I always heard people pick 7 and I just wanted to be different so I leaned into 8s. Idk.
Now, I struggles because I like 8s but I don’t want to be a Nazi. F’ing Nazis ruin everything.
Guess I could just like 8 or 888, haha.

This. My boyfriend also has ADHD so our conversations are a nightmare for this exact reason.
w3dd1e@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People with ADHD: What are the things about it that people don't get?6·3 months agoHyper focus is a real problem for me. I don’t even realize I’m hungry or that my bladder is full until I’m feeling nauseous or light headed. What feels like 15 minutes is actually hours.
At the same time, if I don’t complete a project from start to finish in one sitting, it’s nearly impossible to restart.
I don’t get basic things done like laundry or remembering to make appointments because I’m stuck on one task. Sometimes I’m afraid to do things I love because I can’t just do it for 20 minutes. Especially video games. I want to relax after work and play but I know I can’t let myself or I might not eat that evening.
I need help getting started. I’m not an idea person. I can make anything you come up with but I can’t come up with the ideas on my own.
I’ve used it for an outline and then I rewrite it with my input.
Also, I used it to generate a basic UI for a project once. I struggle with the design part of programming so I generated a UI and then drew over the top of the images to make what I wanted.
I tried to use Figma but when you’re staring at a blank canvas it doesn’t feel any better.
I don’t think these things are worth the cost of AI ( ethically, financially, socially, environmentally, etc). Theoretically I could partner with someone who is good at that stuff or practice till I felt better about it.

And yeah, this thing probably isn’t something I’m going to get, but at least they are trying something that isn’t a generic rectangle of glass like all the others. I miss the days of fun gadgets.
Halt and Catch Fire.
Set in the 80s, it’s about a company in Texas trying to build a computer to rival IBM. Er, that’s how it starts. I liked it so much, I bought it.
I came here to quote this. 🫡
