Each SimpleX release gets me closer to using it. The upcoming v5.8 update is no exception:

This release focus is improving the app usability, and preparing the foundation for v5.8 that will provide an in-built protection of user IP addresses when connecting to unknown file and messaging servers, reducing the need to use Tor (which would still remain supported via SOCKS proxy, for additional privacy).

Edit: SimpleX v5.7.5 is 313 MB without Data/Cache on Android. Yikes.

I got the game bundled with a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 kit and played it before, during, and after 9/11, and was blown away by the coincidences that appeared eerily prescient during this time.

Yep, 2004 is about right, going through terminal emulators and reminiscing on old protocols that no longer mattered because of broadband and TCP/IP. Time flies, that’s for sure.

Probably incremental, but I’ll tell you this: I certainly remember the benefit of ZMODEM-90 with MobyTurbo over YMODEM-g.

I haven’t thought of that protocol feature in about 20+ years. Saved so much extra time transferring over long-distance ($$$).

The huge red flag to me is that Signal is no longer decried as the devil of western intelligence anymore.

Frank Figliuzzi (former FBI cointel) and Chuck Rosenberg (former DEA admin) used to rail on about all of the dangers posed by Signal, but I haven’t heard an unkind word in over a couple years now.

I think some people get lost and don’t realize that this is a privacy-centric community.

The mere potential for identifier leaking is 100% anti-privacy.

I really don’t get a lot of the rationale behind Lemmy. Love the gist, but damn, even basic access and recall are a nightmare.

• What community for what instance?
• Why aren’t permalinks for comments and posts associated, under the community and instance to which they reside, by that reference?
• Why don’t post links have a slug?

It’s a nice start. Maybe it’ll be fully fleshed out one day.

Me neither, I feel the same. I remember passin up DXMD on release to give it time. 7 years should be enough, right?

Hbomberguy’s video made me realize exactly why it didn’t feel that way to me.

All of the glaring issues are coming back vividly as I am watching this. I remember the frustration with the forced narrative. It was a decent looking game on release though, I do remember that.

I was a believer. I wanted DXHR to be a worthy successor to DX, as DXIW certainly was not. I was preloaded and ready to go at launch.
