If you’ve found your way to the technology community on a federated lemmy instance, youre techy enough to take the blame for using chromium

rog@lemmy.onetoUnixporn@lemmy.ml•Hey, we should all really stop using racist slang to refer to customozation32·2 years agoI thought it was Racing Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement, that is putting shitty race decals and spoilers onto some piece of shit car. Its probably a reverse acronym though to fit the unital racist term.
Unlike calling an Asian car a rice burner, which is just straright perjorative.

Im a linux guy, but the thought of rolling out even the most user friendly linux distro gives me nightmares.
rog@lemmy.oneto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Not that you guys need the reminder, but your work sees all your browser history and you may not even be able to delete it if you wanted to5·2 years agoAs an IT administrator, if your org has GPOs controlling if you can delete your browsing history or not, there is no chance you will be able to install a second browser without admin credentials.
rog@lemmy.oneto Linux@lemmy.ml•Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?3·2 years agoYou can also find secondhand thinkbooks for very reasonable prices.
I havent bought a brand new laptop in over a decade now, dont think ill be starting any time soon either.
Nothing on lemmy is private. Your instance is just hosted on a server, and in this instance that server is essentially just someone elses computer. Anything you do or say on the server can be viewed by the admin and whoever they decide to delegate access to.
This is true for practically every online service ever.
Interesting way to look at it, but I still dont see where the force is acting on the object going through the portal. The object is not in motion and will stay in that state unless something acts upon it, so where is the energy coming from to act on the object?
rog@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Australia’s internet providers are ditching email, to the disgust of older customers3·2 years agoYou’re also on lemmy. You might be old, but you are also technically literate. Im not saying PM is bad, I used it myself for ages until I decided to set up my own domain for business reasons so moved to fastmail.
Its just for the type of oldies who use ISP provided mail dont like the change of leaving the ios default mail app to go to the protonmail app
rog@lemmy.oneto Steam Deck@lemmy.ml•How Steam Deck reignited my passion for gaming and then killed itEnglish9·2 years agoWhat would you get out of reading it?
Its just some guys opinion, just because its published doesnt give it any sway.
If you have a deck and enjoy it, some other guy not enjoying doesnt really make a difference does it
rog@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Australia’s internet providers are ditching email, to the disgust of older customers4·2 years agoProton isnt great for oldies. You cant use default email apps and the like without a bridge, and last I checked they arent available for mobile or Chromebooks, which means they would have to use the first party app. Thats just another change thats not worth it for oldies who dont like change.
Also migrating away from protonmail is a nightmare. You cant when set a “forward all” rule.
I admire protons ethos, but the UX sucks.
rog@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•Australia’s internet providers are ditching email, to the disgust of older customers5·2 years agoAn older family member of mine rang yesterday asking about what to do after they read the announcement.
I have been telling them for years to change to a proper provider but they weren’t interested. I told them this would eventually happen, but the change wasnt worth the hassle for them.
Now the change is forced and its just increased the stress.
Im hoping the prospect of only being a year for free then ad based means I can just get them onto fastmail or something that I can administer.
The portal is a hole. The hole is moving. The conservation of momentum is the hole moving as it continues to move along the track. If the people start moving, where does that momentum come from?
Imagine a tennis racket with no strings. Two portals are stretched across the space the strings would normally be, back to back, one orange one blue. If you threw a ball in the air as if you were going to serve and swung the racket, the ball would pass straight through the portals as if they weren’t there and would fall straight down due to gravity. The ball maintains its conservation of momentum, and the tennis racket holding the portals also maintains its conservation of momentum as it swings through the air. There is no force applied by a hole.
Its just a hole though. If you have a tennis racket with no strings and swing it over something stationary the object doesnt move
Absolutely not. A company gets to choose who it hires and fires though, and if you act in a way contrary to their rationale then they have no obligation to keep you around.
There’s nothing wrong with getting an explicit photorealistic tattoo of a vulva on your forehead either, but your boss at the childcare centre might not like it and you’ll probably lose your job.
They obviously knew her twitter prior to offering the job and were actively monitoring it. The NASA guy doesnt just go around telling people to watch their language in tweets. They were keeping an eye on them, and they fucked up.
rog@lemmy.oneto Steam Deck@lemmy.ml•Valve’s Good Guy Image Makes Up For The Steam Deck’s ProblemsEnglish1·2 years agoI think the main selling point of the Ally is Windows though.
There are plenty of people who are scared to touch linux, even with a nice launcher on top that does everything for you if you are happy with a vanilla experience. I personally know people, in their 30s as well, who said a while back that they would rather wait for a windows handheld for “stability”. They havent picked up an Ally though.
rog@lemmy.oneto Steam Deck@lemmy.ml•Valve’s Good Guy Image Makes Up For The Steam Deck’s ProblemsEnglish11·2 years agoHuh, I didnt realise this iteration of steamOS hadn’t released. I remember tinkering with the distro they released (probably in alpha/beta) back in the day when steam machines were going to be a thing,
Portability means making sacrifices. I dont need 4k 200fps on a hand held on the bus, I just want to be able to jump in when ive got some down time and im not at my main machine.
