krnpnk@feddit.deto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•why do pharmacies have these signs with whacky animations?22·11 months agoCan’t really contribute as in Germany most pharmacy signs are pretty static and look kind of like this: https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2014/06/30/20/59/pharmacy-380780_640.jpg
But I also wonder why there’s so many pharmacies in France. In almost any city I’ve been to it’s hard to not have a green flashing cross in sight.

But if you just want to fake being a martial artist I recommend just buying a black belt and wearing it everywhere. It’s just as stupid, but cheaper and less painful. Or maybe instead of elf ears you can buy cosplay cauliflower ears to wear…🙄
krnpnk@feddit.deto Rust Programming@lemmy.ml•Announcing the Safety-Critical Rust Consortium3·11 months agoI’ve been waiting for something like that for quite a while. Let’s hope it really drives forward adoption in safety critical software 🙂
Does this then also work for the media buttons? Then maybe I should try to rebase…
I know about those “workarounds”, but it’s ridiculous that the regular UI (including media buttons!) is more or less useless 🙂
Did you get your audio volume fixed? My ThinkPad is so quiet on Linux (Silverblue) that it’s hard to use it for anything with media.
Hm it’s probably “bundle with the hardware, make sure the hardware really works and there’s a price incentive vs Windows”.
As long as you have to actively migrate (including backing up, losing access to several commercial apps) and could end up in the situation that your hardware isn’t 100% working or you’re workflow isn’t really supported?
krnpnk@feddit.deto Linux@lemmy.ml•It's not about “Flakes vs. Channels” — Samuel Dionne-Riel3·1 year agoValuable background information, although it seems kind of pedantic as “channels” is just used for the legacy way as there doesn’t seem to be a better term for it.
krnpnk@feddit.deto Privacy@lemmy.ml•People Are Slowly Realizing Their Auto Insurance Rates Are Skyrocketing Because Their Car Is Covertly Spying On Them1·1 year agoWhile licensing is definitely harder in Germany you also do not have to retest or do anything else to keep your license. It’s actually a problem that it’s pretty hard to take away the license from old unfit people (and the German government actually blocked EU legislation improving that).
krnpnk@feddit.deto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•macOS users, kindly correct my misconceptions about the OS and the company1·1 year agoYeah we’re talking about different kinds of software. I’m mainly talking about CLI software and it seems like I didn’t notice that Jetbrains killed Appcode…
krnpnk@feddit.deto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•macOS users, kindly correct my misconceptions about the OS and the company1·1 year agoOh I absolutely agree that it’s really bad, but for most (non-ios) things you Don have to use it?
krnpnk@feddit.deto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•macOS users, kindly correct my misconceptions about the OS and the company1·1 year agoWhy would XCode be a problem? But I fully understand that for FOSS projects - especially without easy&cheap Mac CI solutions you’re back in the 90s of manual testing etc…
krnpnk@feddit.deto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•macOS users, kindly correct my misconceptions about the OS and the company121·1 year agoYeah and you can even have a Linux like experience with nix.
But it’s a lot like Linux except when it isn’t… There’s a lot of little differences. And things like cross compiling from MacOs to non-Mach targets really sucks because it seems like often people do not really maintain such a usecase.
I use it for two reasons:
- 90% of martial arts seminars in my region are organized via Facebook events.
- I need an account to maintain our sport clubs page
But I wouldn’t say I enjoy it…
I really doubt that such a large change can come before C++ lost all its momentum. (And you could even argue that that already has happened)
I’m currently stuck at work with C++14 as we need certain compiler qualifications (for safety in automotive). Even if that proposal would be in C++26 I could maybe use it in 2035 (
$current_year - 2014 + 2026
). In 2035 I doubt anyone in that domain will still write C++ as Rust is already making headway.
Oi hopefully that business model will work out for them…
When regulators make this reasonable. A lot of OEMs are interested in FOSS, but liability makes it hard - especially for safety critical domains.
This is not exclusive to Lemmy, this happens the same way in real life - when you critique their food choice people tend to get in the defensive. This happens whether it’s about their health, ecology or ethics and of course it gets worse when you are implying that their choices hurt others.
Of course this is not exclusive to food. Everything that is seen as part of your identity leads to this defensive reaction (see politics, sports teams etc.) and they double down on their current stance. I bet vegans would be a LOT more successful if they would be more empathetic toward non-vegans and would approach this topic more tactically.
