honestly though that’s what i keep telling my co-workers especially if they struggle on a thursday or friday and say things like “i just have to pull through to get to the weekend”. they usually laugh and think i’m kidding, but a bit of reassurance helps.

- had very out of date hardware
- were incredibly expensive for what they offered
- the only middle ground model that seemed fitting for my purposes (gaming wouldn’t be on that list but linux indeed) was nowhere to be found.
i should probably have a look at their models again in the near future, thanks for reminding me. are you happy with yours (and willing to share which model you use)

why not use a tablet you might ask? i love the handling of a solid, non-detachable keyboard.
- also a smartphone that reacts quickly to user input with an OS that doesn’t look like the love child of windows mobile (remember that?) and the first iphones. looking at you iOS18 settings menu (among others)

(advice for falling asleep if you are not tired coming from someone who worked rotating shifts for a decade) like this is not a joke but nothing helps me fall asleep faster than not moving as soon as i lie down.
“oh i can’t fall asleep, i rotate onto my other side” no!
“oh i know turning on my belly might help” no!
“oh i know…” just stop it.
stay put, try to calm your thoughts but do - not - move - any - limps - at - all! no little arm movement, no turning around and very soon that little tingly feel will start to appear letting you know that you’ll soon be fast asleep.
i was just in the same situation and stumbled upon an issue, but more on that later.
nvme cli might be what you are looking for, the arch wiki has got a good tutorial https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_state_drive/NVMe
but: it depends on how you connect the nvme ssd to your system. if you use an external enclosure/adapter the nvme would show up as /dev/sda because it is not attached to the proper interface. i did not manage to get nvme cli to work in that case.
but, and that is the much easier way to solve that issue: the bios is your friend. most modern bios provide a secure erase nvme option. so just stick the nvme ssd in your computer and try to do it that way. only took a couple of seconds due to the way it works on nvme ssds as far as i understand.
that said: i’ve got two older WD nvme ssds that i could’t format using four (!) different PC’s and their bioses, non of the manufactures software for windows or bootable usb sticks would work either (tried the latter on three different PC’s) and the external enclosure solution provided no help either. only the bios of an older asrock board easily accepted the nvme and managed to secure erase it. no clue what went wrong the first times but at least they are clean now.
