  • It’s typically this and not the particular tech in the headlight. And when it’s not “plug n play” (pnp) bulbs, it’s bad aim because every factory aims them with an empty tank and owners are clueless headlights can be aimed. That A8 had pretty good lights for the time. Sure, the lights do tend to be more intense when you’re in the beam on a hill, curve, etc), and the bluer color isn’t great for human night vision, but that’s a tradeoff for the increased speeds we travel at now.

The further development of matrix LED lights by the Germans is a great development, really only feasible with LEDs. They turn off individual segments to give a near-high beam experience but specifically without blinding other drivers.

But blaming it all on LEDs is like blaming gas engines for loud exhaust. There’s supposed to be a system in place that makes it tolerable for everyone around.

  • The Far Cry games pretty much always allow a sniper and/or stealth option. Some of the scripted mission sequences can be fast paced, but it’s largely open world. If you’re not familiar with them, stick to the games with numbers in the titles for starters. Probably not 6. Maybe not 2 this day and age. 3-6 all exist with a particular style in mind.

    Unless you’re anti ubisoft

  • Scott Swift didn’t create Big Machine Records. The guy who did, approached Taylor playing in a venue as he was starting the label. The supposed sequence of events is Scott invested after she was signed, resulting in less than a 3% stake. When BM was sold, Scott sold his stake for $15mil. I would think his initial investment, before Taylor had a few albums under her belt, was somewhere around what middle-class parents provide for college tuition.

So, priveleged with 2 parents, a relocation to her dad’s Nashville branch, and a normal middle class financial backing? Sure. Art is incredibly hard to be successful in. But still, I never see these comments portraying it as $50-100k. They come across as $30mil+.

And no, I’m not a swifty. I can’t stand her music. It’s not for me. Country and pop are boring to me and her melodies are too happy. I can’t stand the fan base for treating her like god. I kinda enjoy drawing parallels between her lyrics and those of Slipknot because they’re both singing for the unloved outsider and then watching the brainwash meltdown. It’s like Tool for women.

It just seems weird to me to only ever see her get bashed for such a priveleged upbringing when 1. We can agree it’s the only way to make it and 2. It’s thousands, not millions that propped her up.

  • Somehow both anti-fascist left wing activists (paint, scratch, protest) and anti-ev right wing reactionists/“car enthusiasts” (scratch, cord cutting, gas pump-sucking circle jerking). Yet, Teslas keep selling and people keep buying, despite getting attacked from “both sides”. I think it’s a great example showing the general population does not give a fuck. The apathetic population outnumbers the voting population. The nearsighted self-interested demographic (tax, rebate, and fuel incentives) prevails over the shouty demographic.

    It’s vocal minorities all around.

I’m a pro-ev general vehicle enthusiast. I’m surrounded by Teslas. I can’t knock Tesla for putting evs on the road. I’m still waiting for the real manufacturers to get up to speed. At least we had some good PHEV options?

  • I’ve played Far Cry 2 through most of 6. If you don’t recognize particular references, there’s nothing that makes them substantial otherwise in the sea of creative, humorous descriptions of everyone/everything else.

I would say it’s similar with assassin’s creed, keeping it in the family of “ubisoft series gamers love to shit on”. The references are in the same style as other database entries, so you’re not missing anything if you’re unfamiliar. I’ve played 4 through Odyssey.

I’m trying to think of other series and keep landing on the same reasoning, actually. Yeah, I love having more basis for the lore in other series, but I don’t feel I’m missing much without every reference. I mean, Ace Combat was my personality for a few months when 7 came out, prompting me to replay 4 and 5 and buy Zero and 6. As others have said, the main thing is if you do choose to go backwards, things get clunky for both general game and specific series development reasons. Assin 4 was my most recent AC (tried 3, beat Unity>Ody, then beat 4) and man, parkour is tough. I gave up on 3 because it was so awkward and I was too old to learn at the elder age of like 23.

I gotta say though, Forza Horizon 1 remains my favorite. There’s certainly some nostalgia tied to it because it set me up for impossible expectations in the car community (especially now in the post-covid takeover bullshit). It had a more concise campaign and had some story attached to it. I’m up to 4 and it just drops me in like “this is just what you do now” and every race unlocks 4 more races with no end in sight.

That’s not how it should work, but it does. It’s a conservative thing to lack empathy. They struggled 20 years ago, so 1. It must be the same exact struggle and 2. Instead of making life better for all, they’ll actively contribute to maintaining shitty life for these “entry” people because that’s apparently just how it works.

They want $15/hr for flipping burgers? I only got $4! (inflation is meaningless, intangible, and not calculable)

They want more savings and less money? Stop buying coffee! (bespoke coffee has tracked way lower than inflation, making daily Starbucks pretty insignificant compared to rent)

They want more respect in customer service? Why, I dealt with all kinds of bullshit! (as demonstrated by their shitty attitude, with less working hours, better benefits, lower population density, less stripped work force, local management support, and a higher percentage of people speaking the common language)

It’s not walking a mile in their shoes, to them. It’s walking in very different shoes and assuming everyone’s shoes are the same. Just look at any meth overdose death story when it’s a nice white girl. She just made a mistake, or got tricked, or was down on hard times. If the case looks like their own daughter, there’s empathy. Anyone else? Victim’s fault.
