Hi I didn’t realize it stopped development

I had read a blog post about this conflict a week or two ago (and I just pulled up an article by a gnome maintainer to refresh on details).
People are of course allowed to use older versions, but if a distribution, by policy, lags significantly (2-4 years) behind the normal release schedule of a piece of software it distributes, while at the same time leaving feedback pointed towards the original devs, it creates a completely unnecessary burden on the developers.
And regarding the “modifications”, it appears like mint had used the GTK4 library libAdapta instead of libAdwaita now several versions ahead of libAdapta. I don’t know how extensively this effects that app but the point is the user facing experience of the software is being modified by mint. I don’t believe it’s unreasonable for the maintainers to take the responsibility of handling bug reports and such, even if it just acts as a filter for relevant bugs to be reported upstream.

If you’re shipping an out of date package with your own customizations then uses should at least be redirected towards your own bug tracking services instead of sending them to waste the maintainers time on bugs that either have already been fixed or aren’t present without the tweaks applied by the distribution.

Fedora (Silverblue in particular) was the end of my distro hopping journey too. It’s just so pleasant to use and it’s comfortably up to date. I also like its tendency to push newer technologies.

Gnome 2 was so good. It took years for gnome 3/40whatever to get to a point where I felt like it was worth switching back to.

Well there’s your TWIN <3

Never been banned I just find Reddit use users insufferable and while sometimes lemmy isn’t that much better it’s definitely not as bad as Reddit has been. Especially lately.

I’m not sure that there would be a good reason to do it to be honest. Each engine is pretty mature and has been built into its design philosophy for years - nearing decades. If you have a different idea for how a browser works you’re probably still better off starting from scratch than trying to hodge podge your vision from an existing engine that is already unwieldy and has plenty of vulnerabilities (while more and more will appear as time goes on).

Vanilla gnome is pretty peak

Holy shit please

It’s fine I just install uBlock and cope

This is so fun

I’m pretty sure it’s recognized it’s well discussed when talking about ticks here.

Shitttt my bad idk how I missed that

Apple TV isn’t open source but if you want to watch your streaming services in a quality higher than 720p you’re going to have to pick something proprietary anyways and at least Apple TV has no ads and is very pleasant to use.

Love to see some accessibility improvements and the nautilus update is going to make handling my large folders a lot easier

Huh that does sound arbitrary

I saw this before but I wasn’t ready, I think I might be now…
This is pretty cool!
