Yeah every factory I have ever worked at had automated equipment that just sat in the floor unused because someone in accounting decided it was cheaper to pay some $20 an hour to do that process rather than pay $24,000 to a company that could actually fix the damn thing. Western capitalists are so adverse to spending any amount of money on maintenance that automated processes quickly fall apart for anything other than a bottling plant or other industry where production is measured in thousands of units per minutes. I worked at a plastic injection factory for awhile and every press but one required sticker to be placed on the storage bins by hand.

It’s such a ridiculous premise since these robots cost as much upfront as a worker costs over the course of a couple years, and I seriously doubt any of these robots will last much longer than a year in a factory setting.

Any app that you are using to track your medical information is 100% saving that data and selling it off. I don’t know why people are shocked to discover this.

Flat screen TVs replaced CRT in the 2000’s, the iPhone came out in 2007, HD home media in the form of Blu-Ray, the PS3 and xBox 360, and mass internet adoption all occurred in the 2000s. The slow web pages you complain about are because telecom companies in the US took billions of federal grants to upgrade their systems and then just pocketed it

I haven’t bought Pepsico or Frito-lay chips in years. But I’m fortunate that here in Ohio every county seems to still have their own independent chip company and I am happy to pay $6 for a family size bag of chips made right here in town vs $5 for a bag for mass produced crap.

Maybe you should look at who has been expanding the surveillance state for the past 25 years, because it’s essentially a bipartisan issue in Congress and all administration. Edit to expand on my point, but the Democrats continued sycophancy to giant corporations and refusal to enact policies to benefit actual people is why America has accelerated towards fascism for the past 30 years.

The US is out of money, industrial capacity is decimated, and the only viable tax base is the billionaire class who have made it clear they have no intention of paying. IDK how the US will be able to keep up this pace into next month.

I wouldn’t say “useful” but the military industrial complex does at least employ actual people to create actual things, where as an AI data center just siphons off the resources of an area and creates no jobs. This is avoiding any moral judgement on weapons production, simply saying that the energy that goes into it is creating an actual product.
