Finally the constant traffic roar went silent and I could keep my windows open and listen to birds and insects. A pleasant curfew.

One day I had my phone charging on the same table I was measuring a liquid from two glass dropper bottles. The phone heard me shaking the bottles, clinking the glass pipettes, and dropping the liquid into water. I’ve never ever talked about dropper bottles as I didn’t know what they are called before this incident. I had bought the liquids with their bottles about a month before, and I’ve only ever referred to them by the brand name of the liquid.
My Quora feed 20 minutes later:
“What are the advantages of using dropper bottles in chemical processes?”

What's the best use of that money if my goal is to stop climate change?English62·5 months agoInvest it into a mutual fund fighting climate change. My bank has one. I guess many banks do. Some relevant terms in their fund names: fossil-free, climate, forest, sustainable agriculture.
Several funds in my bank have ESG in the name.

Gen AI is a better brainwashing tool than corporate mass media.
(The day after the mass murderer CEO got shot, OkCupid (Match Group) let me know that they had deleted the year-old chapter in my profile containing “Fuck the healthcare system - make a better one”, without sending me a copy to edit. The assholes have deleted so much of my content. 85% of my multiple-choice question answers deleted without a warning. Back up your online content, people!)

Tehdastehdas@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What issue in society do you think is near impossible to fix?English1·6 months agoAs destructive technologies advance, any level of crime will become unacceptable, because eventually it will take only one person to create (for example) a bio-weapon to kill 10% of planet population. I predict we will have to design every new baby to fit into society, and ban humans with destructive impulses from being raised on Earth. Mandatory eugenics for the whole planet. Reserved free-range fuck-around planets for dangerous organic humans. Blowing up a Mars dome hurts only a few, because connecting tubes have air locks, and viruses can’t survive outside. “Blast your prehistoric frustrations away in our all-out war park!” -God of War Inc., Mars.
Tehdastehdas@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What advice have you heard or tried that was just flat-out wrong?English5·6 months agoWhen a trailer starts oscillating because it was loaded rear-heavy, “going full throttle will straighten it out”. It didn’t, car spun, load flew in a ditch.
The trailer did feel restless after turns, so I assumed it’ll be fine if I steer smoothly. The first 10km went okay, but then there was a downhill, and that somehow increased the instability and it went mad. Speed was constant 80km/h.

Not a very useful measure if a country has cheap and reliable publicly owned rental apartments. I would prefer rental because it’s easier to leave.

Tehdastehdas@lemmy.worldto Do-It-Yourself, Repairs and Fixes@lemmy.ml•Key replacement on Asus Vivobook 14?English1·6 months agoThe keyboard is probably short-lived anyway, so a replacement is a good idea. Just take photos of every phase of disassembly and keep the parts and screws arranged on trays or something.
A repair is theoretically possible with silver paint applied to the damaged conductive paths in the switching film, https://lemmy.world/comment/14076165 , but all the other switches will remain old and unreliable.
You might check what AliExpress has to offer. My Lenovo Ideapad 530S’s film-switched keyboard started malfunctioning at three years age. I replaced it even though it was melt-studded (?) in - plastic rods poke through the keyboard, their ends melted flat and wide. Some instruction video told me to cut the stud ends off with a chisel, but I used a mini drill. The most difficult part was to hold the keyboard pressed in its place with weights on sticks while doing a temporary re-melt of the insufficient rod ends with a soldering iron (I could have skipped that). After that, I covered the re-melted ends with epoxy for near-original strength. The repair was successful.

Then you’ll know if you used too little detergent. Could use a vinegar soak or wash (or bleach for whites), because detergents can’t dissolve everything.
