As far as I know, that would be legal. It’s the circumventing of the encryption that’s problematic. I am not a law stylist though.

In the USA if you are circumventing some digital lock (encryption) in order to create the backup, it is illegal. The DMCA fucked us out of our rights to an archival copy.

That’s doing that locally on your device, not on the carrier network. It’s definitely a good solution for this problem though.

I always recommend Pop_OS! for beginners. It’s IMHO a lot closer to what Ubuntu used to be, uses apt and/or flatpaks (and no snaps), has sane defaults, a good installer, a decent company behind it, nvidia drivers included and their upcoming Cosmic desktop environment looks sick.

Man, same. I used to only consider Asus motherboards when I built a PC because I’d had such good experiences with them.

I had an ex girlfriend who owned one of their laptops, which was a nice machine. I owned their 7" Nexus Android tablet. I’m sure I owned other stuff as well.

Now that word has gotten around that they’re voiding warranties over bogus reasons, I definitely won’t be giving them anymore business. That is really disappointing though.

Whatever you decide, make sure you’ve got a backup of any important data before you start making any partition changes. Things go wrong occasionally even when they shouldn’t.

That’s true that not everyone knows about the refund policy. I know advertising isn’t cheap either. Hopefully whatever you decide, it will help sell some copies!
