I keep trying to tell people classical liberals were bastards. There’s this perception that just because we can vote that means we can’t be the bad guys. It’s an ideological catechism that actually fits with the above picture. If Fascism is just whenever mass suffering and death is perpetrated but also World War 2 non voting systems run by strong men then it gives the modern person living in a democracy permission to stop paying attention. After all they can vote and their guy would never.

We need to get this through people’s heads, stop putting flashy words on human rights violations and start holding leaders accountable. Because a culture of not being accountable is how you get actual Fascism.

So the thing is classical liberals were (and are) capable of a lot of damage without Fascism. Fascism is a specific ideology. Not the suffering people are capable of creating. It’s important to understand that your normal democracy is perfectly capable of creating mass suffering.

At no point did they “nearly win” against the world. In World War 1 they made desperate attempts to break out of trench warfare because the blockade was obliterating their wartime economy. In World War 2 they were cooked the second they invaded the USSR and the USA landed in the UK. Those were unwinnable areas for them. Even if they eventually managed to wear down the British, the Americans were right behind them manufacturing 100 tanks a day and 15 Aircraft Carriers in 1943 alone. Which means all of those tanks are getting to the European theater.

And once the USSR got it’s production under way the Germans were on the defensive all the way back to Berlin.

Any department that is seen as being against business gets a person from the business world. They always promise to do a great job, using their business knowledge. And they always do their level best to destroy or neuter that department.

It’s actually in the legislation. The executive branch can literally just declare your corporation to be social media that’s controlled by a foreign adversary. And while there are some limits on who can be a social media corporation there are no limits on forcing the sale. They could literally drop a binder with 400 fully redacted pages as “evidence”. Discord is partially owned by a man born in Kharkiv Ukraine. All they have to do is assert that he has improper Russian connections and Discord is on the selling block for Meta, X, and Alphabet to fight over. It doesn’t matter if it’s not true.

They have demonstrated over the past year that they aren’t required to show evidence. It’s been a refrain of “trust me” from the executive and legislative branch. And public reporting hasn’t turned up anything supporting the accusations of Chinese government interference.

Oh yeah I forgot they claimed all the Gaza footage on the app was faked by the Chinese and Russians…

We can’t even get running apps to not post the exact running route of soldiers in conflict zones. And if adultery wasn’t an actual crime in the military then it wouldn’t matter so much. You go to your security officer and tell them, matter handled.

Part of the reason we’re so worried is because we demand so much of people with security clearances that they already regularly lie about their activities. Weed, sex workers, and black listed bars. All of which can get your clearance revoked, and none of which would interfere with the work of most people with clearances.

Trying to block out society isn’t going to work. We need to tackle that aspect from the other side.
