I’m genuinely wondering if the cold war was any better than a third world war, because it still wrecked various countries in Asia, Africa and South-America

The other day I was thinking about tensions that exist in part because of British-drawn borders. Israel-Palestina, India-Pakistan. Can’t believe I forgot NI.
This is especially a problem because I have them for like 10 instances I visited once, throughout the year. I guess it’s not expiring?
MBM@lemmings.worldto Memes@lemmy.ml•All communities in one single community, but without putting them into one single community5·2 months agoYou should also be careful with merging posts if they’re in communities with a very different comment culture. Like, merging a pro-thing and an anti-thing post isn’t going to make anyone happy. Or merging one on a meme community and one with tightly enforced rules.
I feel like an adjacent one is having good conversations with people from very different countries (ideally face-to-face)

Computer science has absolutely nothing to do with support, they are totally different fields with totally different skill sets.
That also holds for computer science and programming :)

…yes? Why wouldn’t it be
The lemmy.world thread reminds me of a similar “racism on the fediverse” thread, and the occasional thread about misogyny (dismissive, uninterested and/or personally offended)
Democratic socialism (DemSoc) is a specific term (not to be confused with SocDem). Unless your point was that DemSoc is a bad term?
MBM@lemmings.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What factors do you think contributed to the "Reddit Hivemind"? How do you believe it can be avoided?41·8 months agoPolicing just tone is how you get very polite and nicely-worded conversations about

With statements like this there’s almost always some context left out, but even in the best case this feels like cheering on the death penalty
MBM@lemmings.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•I think thread deletion is problematic and needs some consideration and changes1·9 months agoEDIT: I see that the “fediverse” link for posts has been removed.
It’s still there, just not when the post/comment comes from the instance you’re on. Even though the post is to a lemmy.ml community, it’s from lemmy.world so that’s where the fediverse link goes to.
There’s also something that looks like pink Morse code, near the top
MBM@lemmings.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•On the Internet, what is a dead giveaway that someone is actually a kid?2·10 months agoAt the same time that’s one of the bad parts of anonymous discussion. You never know if someone’s an expert or a random person guessing (on ELI5), engaging in good faith or purposely trolling, etc.

This one just confuses me, I thought I heard all the talking points at this point (luckily the next sentence is much more familiar)
