Why does a calculator need my fucking email address? We’re not pen pals, just do this arithmetic.

I agree, capitalism is just one way greed manifests itself. Greedy opportunists figure out how to exploit any system. The people douchevoting you are binary meme-brains who think you’re saying capitalism is the greatest thing since Betty White because you didn’t explicitly say the opposite.

While I was there they were working on integrating presence detection. I saw some demos where lights would go on and off when you walked from room to room, and music you were listening to would follow you. If you were using a computer your desktop environment would migrate to a computer in the new room. Never saw that hit the market in any way I was aware of.
Lots of stuff MS Research did never saw the light of day. One time when my kids were playing Toontown I found a bug that let a player slip behind the graphics. You could see that the clerk at the store was just a legless torso floating in the air, and you could even go behind the walls and fly backwards into empty space until the whole world shrank to a dot. This same bug was present in a MS project called V-Worlds I had worked on a couple years earlier, so I always wondered if they had made a deal with Disney to use the code or if it was just a common graphics bug.

You guys have absolutely lost your fucking minds. My advice is to make Microsoft great again by quitting and forming a bunch of startups, where you can work on innovations that are actually good and useful. For the sake of your own sanity.
Not as laughable as the assumption that “needing a large gender affirming car” was the actual reason someone bought a car, without knowing anything about them except that they’re male. Maybe that proves psychic powers are real too!
Anybody can create a meme, but too many people get too much of their “information” from them.
More sociological insights from the keen minds who teach us you need a small penis to like sports cars.
One small observation - everything I know about socialism I learned years and years before the term “tankies” existed, so I’m pretty sure they aren’t fundamental to socialism.
Secondly, we don’t live in a binary world. Countries that are primarily capitalist still do many things collectively - fire departments for example. The argument is always over which aspects of life to socialize and which to leave in private hands.

Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•are you permanently banned off reddit? or do you just like lemmy more?English1·27 days agoIf you turn your internet router off and on, it should be assigned a new IP address by your ISP. That’s how mine works anyway. This is why dynamic DNS services exist, so you can host things at home even though you don’t have a static IP address.
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What brands should we NOT boycott?English217·26 days agoIMO the uneducated take would be to think passages from an Econ101 book reflected the IRL hardships of changing jobs, possibly relocating, being out of work during the transition, willingness to take a pay cut out of desperation, etc. The word “sophomore” comes from the Greek term meaning “wise idiot” - closely related to the Dunning Kruger effect. Also “apathy” doesn’t mean recognizing ineffective, self-serving virtue-signalling for what it is.
edit: wow, people REALLY hate thinking the laziest possible “action” hits the wrong targets. To repeat: boycotts hurt employees more than investors and CEOs. The important thing is to bury this piece of truth deep in the ground and keep feeling the righteous glow of “doing something” even if it’s ultimately self-defeating.
To them “the machine” is the liberal shadow state, wokeness etc. which they think controls the world.
