This is an overreaction. Drugs do fix problems and sometimes hard work just isn’t actually enough and if anything my experience has been mostly just humouring doctors until I get to the drugs and that actually fixing the issue I had.

No matter what I could try I simply cannot fix my ADHD, and concentration is really the least of my worries, but amphetamines fix it like magic, and the way I even found out I have ADHD is by getting amphetamines from DNMs long before getting them prescribed legitimately.

There are no “healthy habits” I could form when I’m literally unable to form habits without the background dopamine needed for executive function, which is something vyvanse provides for me. Similarly there was no amount of gender non-conformity or societal change that would have fixed my crippling gender dysphoria and I’m glad I just on blockers and HRT as a teen and later got surgery because that was just very literally the fix and I’m just fine now.

Similarly, We’re just now finding out that not only does exercise nor a “healthy” diet have a causal relationship with weight, but that some people are just genetically wired to be more hungry and we have meds that fix that and from then on the “hard work” becomes actually doable, and whaddaya know - being less hungry makes you eat less.

Just as you are saying doctors are incorrect for jumping to the conclusion of using drugs first, you are incorrect by jumping to the conclusion that the individual is to blame for their condition and that they should have to do some kind of work to get better, which is a touchstone of ‘Christian work ethic’ framework where bad/lazy people do bad/lazy things because they are lazy/bad.

I know it’s annoying to accept sometimes that miracle cures exist because it feels unsatisfying, but I think when it comes to skepticism of medicine it is best to be specific rather than draw broad conclusions from a preference for “holistic” vibes and a healthy distrust of capitalism and privatised medicine.

You’re right, but I think it’s also massively underdiagnosed in certain groups like women, immigrants from countries with shit views on mental health.

Another way to do this is sudo su -c 'this is my command’

E.g. change a fan setting on a ThinkPad with:

sudo su -c 'echo "level full-speed" > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan'

So to run a shell you could do all sorts of tricks like:

sudo su -c '/bin/bash -i' and such.

Never know when it comes in handy.

EDIT: Damn, downvoted, any reason why? It works on my machine with a locked root user or one without a PW and I made sure to test it before posting, but I’d love an explanation of why it wouldn’t work if that’s the reason for the downvote. Was just hoping it would be useful to somebody :/

All these game will work swimmingly. Those marked playable will usually work perfectly fine out of the box, but maybe have an ugly launcher or something you need to use the touchscreen for. Those marked unplayable will have bugs but in my experience work fine too. There’s a more detailed less conservative compatibility db online too.

In terms of power it’s about between a PS4 and PS4 Pro, with a faster CPU, more RAM, slower GPU, but with a really fast NVMe SSD so games like CP2077 are very playable but not at the highest settings.

Gotta remember the Deck has a 7.4" 800p screen, so its not comparable to the horse power needed for a PC at 4K or something.

Most consoles end up around the same render res once you’ve accounted for checkerboarding, dynamic res and DLSS/FSR nonsense.

The deck also does shader pre-compilation and caching for games on steam so it often performs much better compared to a Windows PC with the same hardware for example.

Anything ray tracing is out of the question though as it uses AMD, not Nvidia.

I don’t play AAA games (nor know what new ones are there) - if you have a game in mind I could try it and report back?

The only game I tried that it really struggled with was NFS Unbound.

I was also able to do PS3 emulation on it, including Skate 3 and Motorstorm.

You can pirate on the deck. It’s like two extra steps compared to PC, but you can.

If you’re not a Linux weirdo there are subreddits and people have made it easy, though you do have to use desktop mode to download games afaik.

If you’re already a big linux weirdo, just ssh in and look at htop while playing any steam game in deck mode and figure out how the magic works yourself, trust me it’s a lot of fun and the thing is really nice to explore because it’s not locked down at all.
