Only ever had one, kinda. Though I’m not sure I’d call it comfortable? But it’s… visceral, which is mildy amusing because it’s trying to be cerebrial, but too much of the dialogue is just scattered quotes and philosophy references. Anyways, the movie is Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. The second one that was directed by Mamoru Oshii. These days, I don’t get anything out of watching it anymore. I watched it one too many times. But I’ve never taken to any movie like I did that one, so, it wins.

71·5 days agoBeing an astronaut was defo something I idolized as being a kid. Then I got older and realized what it’d take to actually live that life, and the risks involved in rocket travel, and things like muscle dystrophy from being in zero G too long. Not to mention all the schooling and training needed. And it’s all for… not much, really. Like, at the end of the day, space travel does not actually help humanity that much. Now, satellites have certainly changed things a shit ton, but like, we’re not going to other planets anytime soon. We’re not gathering resources from other planets. We’re not terraforming. Our “going to outer space” is parking your ass in a station in orbit and living with reduced QoL while you run experiments in zero-G. Just like, nah, fuck all that noise.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's the most mundane hill you're willing to die on?
9·7 days agoThe movie, Aliens, plural, the James Cameron one, is utter trash. It is not a sci-fi hallmark of any sort. It is garbage that is a total slog to watch and should be lauded as terrible taste from the 80s. Even the much shat on AvP franchise, with it’s especially looked down on Requiem, is better than the shit Cameron shat out.
The classic style MMO, laden with hotkeys and hotbars, fetch quests, and grindingly gathering resources, needs to be taken 'round the barn and shot. This includes such megahits from WoW to FFXIV.
Dark Souls/Elden Ring was never good, and was only ever “okay,” at best, and never worth full price.
I’ll take my downvotes, now, thanks.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a pill could give you someone else's memories and skills but erase a year of your life, would you take it? What would you pick and why?
5·7 days agoPTSD and trauma victims gobbling the pills like mad, the skills are just a bonus
I’d give away two years for expert knowledge in two areas: a painter and illustrator artist, and a successful stock broker. Fuck off from work and win at the market to cover expenses, spend the rest of my time creating whatever the hell I want with my art.
My mind seems to favor the negative memories, focuses on them, and I forget the good ones as they are no longer referenced. So I really don’t care which years I lose.
My negative thoughts, mostly. Even if you don’t believe in do-gooder fallacious platitudes like “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” the truth of the matter is it eases social instances to just not bring negativity to the table unless it’s really needed (which is usually to shut someone down who’s being an asshole, or seriously weighing pros and cons of something.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Trump will fall because of the new Epstein emails?
34·8 days agoNo. I think it will get far less coverage than it should, will get pushed out of the news cycle early, and Trump won’t be held accountable. The only way anything happens is that someone who’s pissed off makes another assassination attempt and lands the shot this time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why are people afraid of commitment in relationships?
11·16 days agoI mean, in my own case, I’m such a bloody mess I couldn’t really recommend someone be in a long term relationship with me. Or nothing too deep, anyway. I’d feel like I’d drag them down. But all that aside, the biggest reason I can think of to be hesitant about commitment is that, in commiting, you will find yourself having to give up control of your life at times and making comprises for the other person’s sake. Where as if you are non-comittant, you will have more autonomy to lead your life how you wish.
I’m not, but a friend is. With a couple, actually. He’d inevitably wind up sleeping with them now and again, and at this point one has just become a fuck buddy with no real relationship attached. But really, it’s your own dynamics that matter here, and that’s between you and that person. So how anything winds up going, well, the one’s most qualified to make best guesses are you and them.

Made by the Futurama and Simpson guys, a Matt Groening show. More of a fantasy show with heavy comedy than a comedy show. Very, very strong continuity between episodes. This thread reminds me there are probably a new season or two out by now I need to go watch.
I watched this in the wake of K-Pop Demon Hunters. I am not the biggest fan of its animation aesthetic, but I got used to it. What caught me off guard is that the writing is pretty solid. This is also a very strong continuity show, one long plotline. Can you tell my interest in episodic animation is dead, now?
Honestly, it has been a very long time since I’ve watched this, but I feel like it should get a special mention. I dunno if it would stand the test of time, but it was both incredibly refreshing for the time (2004) while also parodying a lot of anime and videogame stuff I loved.
A show I was obsessed with for a few years. Metalocalypse was king of media in my life for a while. I had the first two Dethklok albums on CD. One of my most recent regrets is I had tickets to see Dethklok and Babymetal together in concert and did not go because depression was eating at me, and I just didn’t want to go out. That was so fucking stupid. I want to punch my past self.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•You have an unlimited budget to make the worlds first tactical umbrella. What does your umbrella do?
3·23 days ago“Stunbrella” is great. Top name. Slap a flashlight in the bottom of the handle, which can also be unscrewed off to unsheath a tanto-knife styled blade for piercing and prying (the flashlight end would essentially be the handle/pommel of this knife.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats your favorite candle setup or candleholder, that which helps you most enjoy the experience of a lit candle?
2·23 days agoCrackling candles with wooden wicks.
It gave me a sort of feeling I didn’t get from anything else, that I liked. But it’s kind of hard to describe. Like standing on the edge of an epiphany but never quite grasping it.
