I don’t care much about aesthetic and a similar interface for terminal/web seems like it would be useful.

That said, I fully agree that it’s daunting to have to deal with any existing ui. It’s really tiresome to jump through multiple hoops just to get/show info - even before trying to make it pretty.

I think it has some sort of binary already in the archive. There’s a “start-tor-browser.desktop” you just double click to launch the browser.

I dont have a library that big, but I would recommend trying the Feishin desktop player if using navidrome. It’s a solid player in my experience, and has a smart playlist creator UI which the navidrome webui does not include.

• tmux (splitting terminal and detatching/reattaching when I’m sshing onto server, etc)

I’ve also been enjoying Kate. It’s a decent text editor, but the ability to Ctrl + / to pipe selected lines through any Linux command (Uniq, shuf, etc) is a bit of a superpower for an editor

I love flexibility with regex, personally I use ugrep as it also allows utilization of boolean and/or/not logic for more complicated searches.

Do you have experience with either ranger, lf, or yazi? I’m wondering how broot compares. Big fan of file ranger, and this looks very similar.

I don’t use the Word replacement but I do use Calc (excel replacement). I very often want to run calculations or chart a bit of data and use Calc for that. Yeah I could use Google sheets, but every time I want to use it I have to go get my phone out to MFA. Far easier to just type “calc”.

I do not use any other features of LibreOffice.

At work I use the standalone power point and excel. I am not collaborating 99% of the time, and Microsoft Office has mechanisms for collaborating & sharing if I do. Using the browser always feels second class with some options moved or hard to find. Of course YMMV.

Can have a shared power envelope and naturally shares heat dissipation - which can both be limiters to simultaneously making full use of integrated graphics & CPU as well, even if the integrated graphics were powerful enough for gaming.

I can’t speak for any specific version - but for awhile it was the same for me, but they eventually made a WebOS official release so I no longer have to fuss with developer mode.

Since it can’t reach the Internet since that point ( maybe a year ago?) I can’t vouch for if any update would have broken that

WebOS app for me has been working like a champ for a long while now. It’s so nice that it just works with my existing remote and everything.

Blocked all traffic to my TV at the router except local, and now it’s a beautiful, free beast. Love the jellyfin crew.

I’ll happily say I must have overlooked something, but I did try using update-alternatives. I don’t remember all the nuts and bolts from the start, but it involves python3 and distribution upgrades. I spent a good number of nights over the years trying to unmess it up, and am happy to never think about it ever again.

Installed python3 before it was made the native python on the dist. Half broke everything, including apt & python. So I uninstalled it, and then everything was broken. Finally got python3 reinstalled, and lived with it kindof working & awful distribution updates.

I have finally freed myself of that prison last month, by nuking everything and starting fresh.

Its a meme at this point, but I tried to install arch. Ran into display issues during install and couldn’t progress. Gave up and did Ubuntu instead.

I know there’s supposed to be some helper stuff out there now to make it go smoothly, but don’t think I am motivated enough to retry ever.
