GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.worksto Lemmy@lemmy.ml•[Help Design Lemmy] How to improve the Joinlemmy Donation page?English3·22 days agoShort and simple is always better, people stop reading if it’s too long.
Thanks to the generosity of our users we are able to develop Lemmy as an open source platform free of tracking and ads. Making a donation will allow us to continue maintaining and improving the platform. To make a one-time or recurring donation click the button below. Thank you for using Lemmy.
Here’s a good listicle about donation pages. https://wpforms.com/donation-page-examples-to-inspire-your-online-fundraising/
Thanks! I’m on the waiting list on libby.
GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Working full time - how do you do it?English12·26 days agoI went from 3/4 twelves to 5 8s and it sucks ass trying to do anything after work. I have 6 ish hours to do anything. I used to have two days off in a row during the week plus 3 day weekends every other. It sucked working weekends and getting home later.

they’re going to cut taxes for the wealthy and make us pay more so that they can grift it back into their own hands.
I always bootstrap business ideas without spending any or little money to start. Making a small thing on github that says “managed service, please contact for pricing” channel that through a virtual assistant to weed out the time wasters. If you get a lot of demand, then you scale up and flesh out complete automation.
You could always outsource and automate the basic troubleshooting aspects. Running updates accross multiple customers would be a breeze. I beleive I’ve seen one managed services company that will set up an instance and manage it for around $20/mo.
I guess I wasn’t thinking about how much work it would actually be in order to enforce it. I doubt I could afford the cost. Maybe if it was coupled with a managed services type of deal and you had enough subsrcibers it could be enough to hire another staff member? It seems like adding “premium” features could alieanate the userbase unless it’s just cosmetic changes. I put my foot in my mouth bringing it up, sorry.

Indeed it is a big ask, however, It would be something I’d be willing to pay for. Many foss projects make money from paying customers as well as donations. I also mention and explain what lemmy is and encourage people to check it out in the getting started area of the site.
It’s the little heart on the top on desktop.
It would also be nice to remove the join lemmy link on the bottom as well as a few other tweaks.
More customization for site owners. I have an independent instance and there’s a lot of things on there that are confusing for people unfamiliar with the fefiverse or lemmy. It would also be nice to remove the donation beg at the top. I know Lemmy needs funding, but it makes it look like I’m asking for donations.
In order to use someone elses content under fair use you have to make “meaningful commentary” so they do the bare minimum in order to use other people’s videos.
