Linux@lemmy.ml•Tips on running multiple distros together on my laptop?English2·2 years agoJust pick a distro. It sounds like you want to learn. I suggest arch. It does the least for you, is the least opinionated, but also has by far the best documentation (arch wiki is the de facto linux documentation).
The difference between the distros is otherwise simply what package management tool they use, and what packages are in their repository. Nothing else is different that’s of any importance.

Linux@lemmy.ml•First proper look on Star Labs' upcoming StarFighter laptopEnglish475·2 years agoa robust charging connector
Wtf? Usb-c charging is the best thing that’s happened to laptops this decade. You’re insane to want to go back to the bad times.
Wow. What an enlightened centrist take. All views are valid, great take

Oh, misread the post, no idea for C sorry. I would think it would be really hard for C to have a generic structured log library, but I’m not a C expert

I’ve been looking for this for a few years now. Seems the answer is no, if you mean a de facto one. I hacked some structured log into spdlog, but it’s far from good enough

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some things you wish you had known when switching to Linux?English11·2 years agoThat’s the whole point of an LTS distro. And it’s why non-rolling distros for desktop OSes make no sense

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?English13·2 years agoYes it does. It means it’s 72% hot, because most human environmental temperatures that you experience are from 0 to 100
This is a perfectly civil question that is intended to make the author think about what they’re reading in the future, rather than spoon feed pure information
Requiring logging in to unsubscribe is absolutely bullshit. I mark all emails as spam that don’t automatically unregister with ONLY clicking a lick. I’m not providing my email, I’m not logging in.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•When an online game goes offline for maintenance, what are they doing?English201·2 years agoNot just database migrations as others have mentioned, but database state. Databases can result in a lot of dead data, because of how transactions and locks work. Cleaning that up can cause usage of the database to be blocked for a short time. It’s easiest to do this periodically if there’s down time

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?English12·2 years agoHow is the temperature that water boils (at standard pressure mind you) relevant to you? How is knowing that number important in your day to day life?

Why would having the build files exist suggest the package exists?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Single quotation marks suddenly appear around file and directory namesEnglish131·2 years agoThe backslash is escaping the space, and the forward slash is just how tab complete works, because it’s a directory, and you might be wanting to add more to go further down the directory tree

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?English13·2 years agoAre you water worried about boiling? When is 100 relevant to you as a human?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?English14·2 years agoWhere is freezing in Celsius? Because it’s very unlikely to be 0 where you happen to be at any given time.
Water boiling is totally irrelevant to what we care about as humans living in an environment

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?English210·2 years agoNot for human centered climate, where 0-100F is a very convenient set of human centric temperatures. 0 is really cold, 100 is really hot
