Things have changed. Before, the worst Facebook could do to its critics was ban them and those that they knew. Now Facebook can have ICE turnover your house without a warrant for a troll post. A private company is now working to suppress a specific kind of conversation that questions the judgement and actions of those in power. It’s a subtle but very dangerous difference in why a bad EULA may not have previously caused concern but the new one is.

A nugget ice machine. Nuggets ice is the perfect chewing ice - not too hard it will crack teeth, even consistency unlike crushed ice, firm like tight packed snow. It’s like chewing on frosty heaven.

But it’s absurdly expensive for what little it does. At least a couple hundred dollars for a counter top ice maker that does nothing but make perfect ice.

We had one cat and didn’t expect a second but it was a conversation that we had started and expected that maybe the first cat was alone and sad when we left for work (in the long ago era of 2013, a pre pandemic life). Given that the shelter was locally well respected we took a look and, yeah, it’s risky but that’s the nature of impulse purchases!

A cat. In line at the pet store for kitty litter and saw a literal pile of kittens near the check out. Turns out that the local shelter was having an adoption day and my partner found a black cat that immediately nuzzled into her shoulder and the little kitten motor purred so loud it sounded like snoring. They bonded in that moment and have been best friends for the last 14 years.

“I can change them.”

That’s not how predetermination works. Just because there is an explosion does not mean that every particle has a preset location it must reach to enact a grander outcome of the combustion. Atheists don’t suffer from a need to have decisions rendered by an omnipotent being or a universe that is some stand-in for that being. There is no grand plan. The Big Bang was not some kick off for a well thought out schematic.

Ok, I realize that I’m in the minority, but I want to pay creators for the time they have put into the game and encourage them to continue creating, even if they don’t finish. It just so happens that well wishing doesn’t pay bills and creators are more likely to try, fail, and resign than see the value in their art and retry or hone their craft/product.

I want to give money to artists, authors, musicians - anyone who is willing to spend their time and effort into making the world a little less awful because we live in a society that doesn’t care about art or beauty unless it makes money. And sometimes the best way to tell a person to keep doing what they’re doing is to help them get the basics taken care of and hope their effort is well placed as a result. I want to give them money for early access software. I believe in their vision as much as they did when they started. They have an idea that got them so excited that they did something about it. We need more of those people.

At first he was cool and would wash people’s cars and picking up animal poop from yards. But it turns out he wasn’t helpful. He was gathering materials and was stealing polluted dirt, piles of shit, and anything else he could find into grotesque golems that roam town and do his bidding. It’s unbearable to go to the market for some bread and milk only to discover the waste elemental made of animated shit and cigarette butts is there to get groceries for him. It’s a fucking nightmare and it makes me want to wear anti magic pendants to fuck up his errands - but that leaves behind unanimated filth that has to be moved by us mundanes. It’s so one sided it’s like tyranny.

Good. Farmers need to be taxed and regulated like all other industries. Unchecked water usage has led to the most inefficient water methods and they don’t pay household rates for water. Little oversight in how pesticides are used so the farmer pays for a helicopter to swoop and spray the area, regardless of the need for pesticides on the entire field with down wind effects for anyone living in the path of the aerosol poisons.

Farmers need to change with the times and start farming like they have satellite pictures and basic math available to them.

Yeah, can’t wait to see what a bunch of bored teenagers and twenty somethings will do to our food supply after the first couple of seasons fucking around. Forced labor also doesn’t mean quality labor.

Authoritarians never learn that forcing people to act like they want doesn’t work.

Confidence isn’t dependent on externalities. Confidence is a state of mind.
